There are too many games out right now, and a barrage of more are coming out next month as studios try to avoid being overshadowed by Grand Theft Auto 6 when it launches in November. But new games are expensive. What if you could play an old game that’s now the cheapest it’s ever been, and just got a big update? Let me introduce you to Battle Suit Aces.
Trinket Studios, also known for the delightful Battle Chef Brigade, launched Battle Suit Aces last year on PC, PS5, and Switch, and while it’s a far cry from the team’s earlier match-three brawler, it does manage to marry some card-based strategy with a space-opera visual novel in a way that’s delightful, emotionally gripping, and challenging without ever overwhelming you with too many card game rules. Do you like mech anime? Are you looking for a good card-based game to sink your teeth into? Would you like to see gay mech pilots do gay mech pilot shit in space? Battle Suit Aces is for you.
As of this month, Battle Suit Aces also has a new roguelite deckbuilder mode called Moonrise Runner, which launched alongside a permanent price drop. Now, the game is only $20, down from $25, and that’s five dollars you can save for a coffee while you play it on your Switch at the coffee shop. The game rips, and now’s a perfect time to grab it before the September onslaught begins.
