GTA 6 Exec Officially Comments on Non-Lethal Gameplay

A Rockstar North executive has commented on the possibility of playing Grand Theft Auto 6 in a peaceful way, assuring fans that there is a brand-new gameplay mechanic to help with that. Grand Theft Auto 6 will follow the story of a young criminal couple, making it quite challenging to avoid shooting NPCs. However, Rockstar seems confident that fans of non-violent games will find ways to enjoy the upcoming open-world game regardless.

Although quite uncommon, there are indeed fans who prefer to play GTA games without committing major crimes or killing pedestrians and cops. One good example is Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown. In an interview, Millie Bobby Brown commented on GTA 6 and described her preference for peaceful gameplay, saying, “I don’t break the rules [in GTA games]. I stop at red lights, I never run anyone over.” Now, it seems like the sixth installment in the series will be the perfect game for fans who share the same play style as her.

New GTA 6 Preview Reveals Pokemon-Inspired Feature

Grand Theft Auto 6 reportedly has an interesting gameplay feature that fans of the Pokemon franchise might end up appreciating the most.

GTA 6 Introduces New Suppressive Fire Mechanic

In an interview with Famitsu, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said, “Let me introduce a new feature: suppressive fire. Instead of shooting directly at your target, you can intentionally miss and shoot at a nearby target to intimidate or confuse them, buying you time to escape.” Nelson explained that the new GTA 6 feature is designed to give players a non-lethal option during combat.

Later in the interview, Nelson reflected on specific missions that might push players into using lethal force, as seen in GTA 6‘s Extended Look trailer, where the co-protagonists are ambushed by cops. He said, “It’s not always easy, but there are many situations where you can get through without killing anyone.” Nelson used a robbery as an example, explaining that players can complete it entirely in stealth. He said players can break into a store without setting off the alarms and leave before anyone is alerted, allowing them to avoid shooting witnesses or engaging in a gunfight with cops.

It was previously confirmed via a GTA 6 leak that players will be able to use taser guns to neutralize targets without killing them. However, Rob Nelson’s comments indicate that players will be given much more autonomy than that. IGN reports that players will be able to incapacitate hostile NPCs by shooting them in the arms or legs. What’s even more interesting is that players will seemingly be able to shoot an enemy’s weapon out of their hands as a non-lethal way of stopping them.

GTA 6 Reveals Cut Feature

It may still be borderline impossible to avoid killing anyone in GTA 6, as it’s a game about the lives of two violent, murderous criminals. However, Rob Nelson seems confident that Rockstar Games has provided ample options for players with various play styles. GTA 6 will also feature an honor system that keeps track of players’ decisions, and making moral or immoral choices, such as killing or saving innocent NPCs, will seemingly influence how the game’s world reacts to the player. In the coming months, it will be interesting to see if any streamer or content creator will actually try to beat GTA 6 without killing anyone.
