It’s Officially the End of an Era for Apple

It’s Officially the End of an Era for Apple

Apple has new leadership in charge, as the Cupertino tech giant is now led by chief executive John Ternus, who takes over for Tim Cook after the latter served 15 years at the post. The change at the top of Apple came just a few months after the company’s 50th anniversary was observed.

As the outgoing CEO of Apple, Cook took over after the death of the company’s co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs. During his tenure, Cook saw the release of multiple product lineups, including the Apple Watch, the iPad, and later iPhone iterations. In 2025, Cook also helped ensure that some Apple products were excluded from the Trump administration’s tariffs placed on goods imported from countries such as China, which were later overturned by the US Supreme Court in 2026.

It’s Already the End of an Era for Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially reached the end of an era that has lasted since its launch last year, with no signs of it ever going back.

The Tim Cook Era at Apple Has Come To a Close

Though Cook initially revealed in April that he would step away as Apple’s CEO, the day has finally arrived for Apple’s next chapter to begin. As of this writing, John Ternus is now the CEO of Apple, having been with the company since 2013 as a hardware engineering executive. Ternus, 51, is credited with overseeing Apple’s transition away from Intel CPUs towards proprietary M-series processors that are currently used in iPad and Mac devices, such as the Apple M5. Ternus also had a hand in designing various Apple products, such as the Apple Watch. In a statement posted during his last day as CEO, Cook expressed excitement for his next chapter, which currently has him staying with Apple as executive chairman of its board of directors.

According to a report from Irish media outlet RTE, industry analysts claimed that one of Ternus’ goals as CEO could be to help Apple catch up in the AI arms race. Despite the company’s efforts, Apple’s own AI implementations have not kept up with ChatGPT and other products. Although companies such as Sony have started using AI to prevent fraudulent transactions, the use of AI by consumers and software developers has been a hot topic throughout the 2020s. Analysts also predicted that Ternus is not likely to initially change much of Cook’s supply chain in the short term.

However, Ternus’ first public appearance as Apple CEO is not far off. An Apple Event will air on Wednesday, September 9, at 1:00 PM Eastern. Titled “Surprise and Shine,” the upcoming Apple Event is when the Cupertino tech giant will unveil its latest lineup of gadgets for consumers to peruse. Among the most-anticipated potential products Apple could show off is a foldable iPhone. Given that Ternus has an engineering background, it is possible that he had some involvement in its design and planning.

While Apple is slated to unveil new products in the days ahead, the company must also navigate the perils of the ongoing DRAM shortage crisis. As RAM prices have continued to exponentially rise, so have the prices of iPhones and other products used by consumers. With Ternus set to take the stage at the September 9 Apple Event, it remains to be seen what Apple’s new CEO will do in the months ahead.
