New Cyberpunk FPS Game Is Bringing Back One of Deus Ex’s Best Ideas

The cyberpunk genre has been popular ever since Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch, and No Law might be the next best addition to the dystopian sci-fi club. No Law made serious waves at Gamescom 2026 because of its action-packed FPS gameplay, but what makes this neon-fueled fight fest even more exciting is that it has some serious Deus Ex qualities running through its veins. While the presentation appears to be heavily inspired by Cyberpunk 2077‘s approach to the subgenre, No Law might actually be better-suited for fans of immersive sims.

It can be hard to find a game that counts as a truly great immersive sim, which makes No Law incredibly intriguing. There are a lot of details that go into crafting immersive sim games, so it’s understandably difficult to nail the formula. Games like Deus Ex require wild levels of design complexity, so I can only imagine what a headache it can be to bring this kind of game to life. Developer Neon Giant seems up to the challenge, though, which could make No Law one of the biggest games to keep an out for in 2027.

New Cyberpunk FPS Game on Steam Is My Classic Halo Fix After Just One Demo

This cyberpunk FPS Steam demo makes old-school Halo feel new again with gravity powers, a ridiculous pistol, and relentless combat.

No Law Has All the Neon Dystopian Flare of Cyberpunk 2077 Combined With Deus Ex’s Immersive Sim Problem-Solving

After No Law‘s big Gamescom reveal, Game Informer discussed the project with Neon Giant co-founder Tor Frick about what sets it apart from other cyberpunk titles. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 have heavily influenced the modern era of the genre, and that makes it extra challenging for No Law to really stand out in a meaningful way. Cyberpunk world design tends to be fairly similar across all forms of media, but when it comes to video games, gameplay is the key to offering something fresh and compelling.

It sounds like Neon Giant fully understands this, and what Tor Frick had to say about No Law‘s gameplay makes it clear that the developer is determined to give players the best of both worlds with the option to go through the story guns blazing or be extra methodical with a more immersive playstyle. It’s completely up to the player, and that’s what made the early days of Deus Ex so successful.

The story of the game is very simple: it’s a revenge story about retrieving your thing. That’s all you need to know to shoot people in the face, but it’s opt-in. If you want a simpler shooting experience, we’ve got you covered; if you want an immersive sim, that’s there, too.

Frick confirmed that NPCs go inside when it rains, which can make it far easier to sneak into secured buildings. Also, many of the shops close at night, making it harder to get more supplies. It’s these lifelike elements that make No Law very Deus Ex-inspired, because the world responds in a truly believable way and allows players to approach obstacles and goals however they please. Realistic game worlds can sometimes go overboard and feel too restrictive, but No Law still leaves room for over-the-top John Wick-style playthroughs.

You can never play the game wrong โ€“ that’s our core tenet. It’s all up to you how you experience stuff.

The world is your oyster in No Law. From stealth-heavy playthroughs to punching and kicking one’s way through the world, all choices are valid ways to get to the game’s end goal. So, even gamers who aren’t particularly fond of immersive sim games can still get plenty of fun out of No Law. It gives No Law a touch of choice-based gameplay that doesn’t seem to necessarily have any dire consequences connected to a player’s approach, which could be good news for gamers who are intimidated by more hardcore choice-based games.

Other Features Confirmed for No Law

  • The game takes place in a lawless Mediterranean city called Port Desire.
  • NPCs have daily habits and routines and even go to bed at night.
  • Port Desire’s map is decorated with dedicated street signs as map markers.
  • Buildings also have addresses.
  • NPCs react differently to the dynamic weather system.

Based on the preview that Game Informer got to sit in on, it sounds like No Law‘s Port Desire boasts the liveliness of Cyberpunk 2077‘s Night City while also adding an extra layer of player freedom that has the potential to make Neon Giant’s sci-fi dystopian project even more immersive.

No Law’s Launch Window Puts the Game in a Very Interesting Position

Right now, the first few months of 2027 are shaping up to be huge. Between God of War Laufey‘s release date, Fable, Metro 2039, and long-awaited games like The Wolf Among Us 2, next year is already looking ridiculously stacked. With games like Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Grand Theft Auto 6 being some of 2026’s biggest highlights, it once felt like it would be hard for the following year to compete. There are clearly still plenty of games to look forward to, though.

Even though Neon Giant has confirmed that No Law is coming out in 2027, the developer has yet to hint at a specific launch window. It’s possible that a full-blown release date will be revealed at this year’s Game Awards, but that isn’t a guarantee.

No Law has the benefit of picking up Deus Ex‘s mantle, though, which could give it a competitive edge. The Deus Ex games have moved away from its immersive sim foundation over the years, and No Law could help scratch that itch. With the Deus Ex franchise now lying dormant, there is no better time for No Law to step into its spotlight than now. Only time will tell if No Law has what it takes to be the next best immersive sim, but Tor Frick’s interview with Game Informer definitely has me more intrigued than I originally was.

With so many strong 2027 game releases on the horizon, it’s going to be fascinating to see where No Law stands against such heavy-hitters. Understandably, Neon Giant’s upcoming game is going to be compared to Cyberpunk 2077, but the genre similarities hopefully don’t distract from the fact that No Law is more focused on being a freedom-loving immersive sim instead of a CD Projekt Red-style RPG.
