A brand-new platforming game is launching on Game Boy Color in October 2026, giving fans a ’90s Saturday morning cartoons-inspired adventure to look forward to. It’s worth noting that this new Game Boy Color game will work through digital versions and emulation, but new game Fortune & Glory does come with physical cartridges designed to work on physical, authentic Game Boy Color hardware, no strings attached.
Of course, it’s worth noting that retro hardware does not get as many new game releases as modern hardware, but that’s not to say none. Fortune & Glory is far from the only new retro game release of 2026, with ModRetro releasing 4 new Nintendo 64 games that work on OG hardware, Buddy the movie getting a Game Boy Color adaptation in Buddy: The Video Game, and Metal Canary launching on Nintendo Wii at RetroCon soon, just to name a few.
Fortune & Glory Releases on Game Boy Color in October 2026
Fortune & Glory is expected to ship physical cartridges in October 2026, with the most recent development update on its Kickstarter revealing that most of the physical supplies came in around August. The lack of a proper release date likely deals with the hand-made production quality necessary here, as well as ongoing development, as many retro games release as soon as everything is good and ready to go. That’s a little harder to put a pin in for small operations.

For the uninitiated, Fortune & Glory puts players in control of cartoon mice searching for a legendary treasure hidden within the ancient Gatopolis, the City of Cats. Fortune & Glory explores this in lore: mice once lived in prosperity until the armies of the cat folk destroyed their homes and farms. Those who survived were forced into slavery and made to help build Gatopolis, leaving behind a legend that the mice’s greatest treasure remains hidden somewhere in the city. Not to mention, there are plenty of cat games like Stray, so it’s nice to see more mice games coming about.
While there’s a vast difference, it’s worth noting this game is a lot like Indiana Jones, befitting that exotic vibe with an 8-bit platformer. Players will make their way through traps, pitfalls, spikes, and other hazards across a series of platforming stages, with the developer aiming for the kind of colorful presentation that would have been possible on the Game Boy Color during its heyday. The current Early Access build already contains twelve levels that can be played from beginning to end, with more coming, for those checking it out on PC (or at least those who are willing to when GBC is right there).

The finished version of Fortune & Glory is planned to expand beyond the current build with additional content, including three more levels, a Master Quest mode, and a Boss Rush mode. A third playable character is also planned, giving players more ways to approach the adventure. The developer has continued working on the game during Early Access, with bug fixes and other improvements planned before the October release.
