Players follow journalist Richard Nolan after an explosion leaves him hospitalized and his wife and son mysteriously missing, sending him into a much larger conspiracy involving surveillance, transhumanism, artificial intelligence, and the possibility of transferring human consciousness into a digital utopia. It’s hard to ignore the timing of this giveaway when many folks are concerned about the long-term impacts of genAI in gaming and beyond. The story is told through multiple playable characters as players investigate Richard’s past, explore a dystopian world split between physical and digital realities, and piece together what happened.
Over on Steam (as a point of reference), State of Mind has a Mostly Positive rating, with 76% of 1,547 user reviews recommending the game. That lines up pretty well with its 3.8/5 on GOG, too. On September 9, Lenovo is giving away free copies of Telltale’s The Walking Dead – Season 1, the classic led by Lee Everett and Clementine. If anyone has somehow not played that masterpiece, then it’s hard to ignore that State of Mind and The Walking Dead create a dynamic duo of free games to play.
