The Epic Games Store has officially unveiled Shogun Showdown and Mindcop as its free games for September 17. The two titles will mark the 67th and 68th freebies that Epic Games Store users are able to claim in 2026.
From September 3 through 10, Epic was giving away Alone With You, a poignant sci-fi adventure from Home developer Benjamin Rivers. That promotion has now been replaced with temporary 100% discounts on Astral Ascent and Luftrausers.
Shogun Showdown and Mindcop Making Their Epic Games Store Debuts Next Week
Both Free for The First Week
With Epic’s September 10 giveaway now officially live, the PC storefront has also formally announced its next promotion, featuring turn-based roguelite Shogun Showdown and detective game Mindcop. The duo will be available to claim for exactly seven days, until September 24 at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET / 5 p.m. CET. Both technically qualify as day-one releases, but only in the sense that neither is currently available on the Epic Games Store and will only debut on the platform when the September 17 giveaway begins.

A Brief Intro to Shogun Showdown

Shogun Showdown is an elegant turn-based tactical roguelite from one-person indie developer Roboatino. An early alpha version debuted in May 2022, followed by a Steam Early Access version in June 2023 and a full-fledged, 1.0 release in September 2024. Although Shogun Showdown uses deck-building elements, it plays more like a compact turn-based tactics game than a conventional card battler. Battles unfold on a narrow horizontal field, with the player and enemies sharing a single line of positions. Moving, turning, or preparing most attacks uses a turn, while enemies respond with clearly telegraphed actions of their own. Combat therefore centers on positioning and timing, allowing players to dodge attacks, force enemies into disadvantageous spots, and sometimes manipulate opponents into striking one another.
Mindcop Is One of the Most Unusual Epic Games Store Freebies in a While
Released in November 2024, Mindcop is a non-linear detective adventure developed by Andre Gareis, a solo developer from Germany, and published by frequent Epic Games Store collaborator Dear Villagers. Normally priced at $14.99, its best discount to date came through Humble Bundle’s Games Under 5 Hours Bundle in early 2026. The game has players investigate a murder in the isolated Merrilyn Crater Camp, choosing whom to question, where to search, and which leads to pursue as new evidence opens further lines of inquiry. The main constraint is time: the case spans five in-game days, each offering seven hours for investigation, with nearly every meaningful action consuming part of that allowance.
Mindcop and Shogun Showdown are worth $29.98 combined, based on their full retail prices. Together, they will double the total retail value of Epic Games Store freebies offered in September 2026 so far.
