Grand Theft Auto 6 could soon appear in advertisements throughout one Florida city, as Rockstar Games was given approval to negotiate with the CIty of Miami Beach ahead of the game’s November launch. Grand Theft Auto 6 is the most anticipated game of 2026, with Rockstar Games sparing no expense in marketing the upcoming title.
The news came amid a busy time for Rockstar Games. On August 27, Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive unveiled GTA 6: An Extended Look, a timed-exclusive Netflix showcase that gave players a look at the content players can expect. GTA 6‘s Extended Look confirmed that activities such as backyard wrestling and jet ski riding will be available for players to participate in. GTA 6‘s detailed interior spaces were also given a glance during the 26-minute presentation. The Extended Look debuted on YouTube after six hours of exclusivity on Netflix.
GTA 6 Marketing Negotiations With Miami Beach Can Proceed
Following the success of GTA 6‘s extended look on Netflix, Rockstar Games and Take Two Interactive continued to ramp up the game’s marketing push. As reported by Eurogamer, the City of Miami Beach narrowly approved negotiations with Rockstar Games for a GTA 6 marketing campaign within the city by a 4-3 vote. The vote was the result of arguments and debate over the violent nature of the Grand Theft Auto series and the money that promoting GTA 6 within Miami Beach could bring to the city. Rockstar is expected to pay approximately $4 million as part of the deal with Miami Beach. The campaign would be “discreetly” advertised through Boucher Brothers umbrellas and beach chairs, with the words “Vice City” and the Roman numerals “VI” being used rather than GTA6‘s full name and logo.

Should a deal between Miami Beach and GTA 6 be reached, the campaign would begin on Thursday, October 15 and run until the end of 2026. Although the open world of GTA 6 will contain references to real-world landmarks and locations throughout Miami and southern Florida, the marketing deal does come with some caveats. GTA 6‘s branding and logos will not appear on city property or landmarks during the campaign. Miami-based freelance journalist Francisco Alvarado reported on Twitter that Rockstar Games, Miami-Dade County, and Miami Heat affiliate Basketball Properties are finalizing a deal to hang up a giant Vice City sign on the roof of the Kaseya Center.
Though the negotiations remain an ongoing matter, GTA 6‘s marketing campaign has faced criticism from Miami officials. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Statuz has been openly critical of GTA 6‘s negotiations with Miami city officials. Cordero-Statuz and commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez stated that using the real-world city of Miami to promote a game that emphasizes crime and violence in a fictional version of Miami would undermine everything that Miami police have done to keep the area safe.
Given that Miami is the direct inspiration behind GTA 6′s Vice City, it should come as no surprise that Rockstar Games would kick off a marketing campaign in the popular coastal hub. It remains to be seen what the final result of negotiations between Miami Beach and Rockstar Games will be.
