A game called Vanakan is officially free to keep on the Epic Games Store, but the promotion is time-limited and ends soon. The Epic Games Store is currently offering two other free PC games, Astral Ascent and Luftrausers, while Alone With You is also available for free on mobile. Now, the storefront has added an extra game to its FTK lineup, one that few knew would be part of September’s schedule.
The Epic Games Store typically reveals its next free games in advance. For example, it has already confirmed that Mindcop and Shogun Showdown will be available for $0.00 from September 17 through September 24. However, the current promotion for Vanakan arrived rather unexpectedly, largely because it is a developer-initiated offer that falls outside the storefront’s weekly rotation of freebies.

Indie developers Erik and Hayk Khachatryan are giving away Vanakan for free on the EGS until September 28 at 01:00 PM. The game was initially released on the storefront in August 2026 and is normally priced at $4.99 USD. As for gameplay, Vanakan is a 2D visual novel adventure that follows the story of a priest in 500s Armenia. Players will have to make some decisions along the way, though their options seem to be fairly limited and may not compare to those found in more in-depth choice-based games.
Interestingly, Vanakan is getting a spin-off called Vanakan 450 that takes the game into a completely different genre. While the first game is a 2D, narrative-oriented interactive novel, the second is set to be a brand-new indie Soulslike game. The theme remains the same, with players still taking on the role of a monk, but everything else will be overhauled and move into a 3D world. Vanakan 450 does not have an official release date at the time of writing, but the indie developers have released several trailers showcasing some of its early gameplay features.
PC gamers who prefer to keep their game libraries on Valve’s storefront may be interested to know that Vanakan is also free-to-play on Steam. It is unclear whether the Steam version will also transition to a paid model in the near future. Also, the developers are running a playtest for their upcoming game, Vanakan 405, on Steam, which could give interested players free access to another one of their titles.
Other Free PC Games to Claim Right Now
Outside the Epic Games Store’s routine weekly freebies, PC users can also take advantage of the latest Steam free-to-keep promotion. Until September 21, Steam users can claim Crystal Crisis at no cost. Crystal Crisis is a retro-style 2D fighting game that uses color-matching puzzles as its primary mechanic. Instead of relying on combos and dodges, players try to destroy as many matching tiles as possible to earn more points. Those points are then converted into attacks and super moves that can knock out opponents. It remains to be seen whether more free-to-keep promotions like these will be introduced throughout September.
