Brand-New Nintendo Switch 2 Controller Officially Unveiled

A new Nintendo Switch 2 controller made under an official Nintendo license has been revealed, bringing features not found on any standard controller currently available for the console. The new controller is also compatible with Nintendo’s previous home console, the Nintendo Switch and its OLED model. More notably, however, it can also work with some PCs, making it a particularly interesting release.

Official Nintendo partner Hori is behind the product, a name that may be familiar to Switch fans. The company recently unveiled another licensed accessory, an electronic ocarina compatible with the instrument of the same name in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda remake. Hori has now expanded its lineup of Nintendo products with a fully customizable Switch controller.

Nintendo Switch 2 Is About to Cross a Line the Original Switch Never Could

The Switch 2 has been on a roll with its third-party games, and its upcoming lineup is about to blow the OG Switch out of the water.

Arcade Classic Pro Revealed for Nintendo Switch Consoles

Hori has officially revealed the Arcade Classic Pro, a new arcade stick for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 that supports swappable components. Designed around the buttons found on actual arcade cabinets, the controller comes with four modules that players can mix and match to create their ideal setup. The Arcade Classic Pro also features additional buttons that users can map to their preferences. Japan-exclusive pre-orders are now open and will remain available through October 2, with Hori planning to release the product on February 28, 2027. It is currently priced at 39,980 yen, or about $258 USD at the current exchange rate.

The Arcade Classic Pro Swappable Modules

  • Stick: The standard module for movement, with support for either four- or eight-direction input.
  • Trackball: A mouse-like component that enables fluid movement based on the ball’s rotation.
  • Paddle: A wheel that lets users turn left and right by twisting it, making it ideal for 2D Switch games.
  • Loop Lever: A combination of the Stick and Paddle modules, allowing movement inputs by twisting it or pushing it vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.

Users can place each of the Arcade Classic Pro’s components on either side of the board, giving them full control over the layout. The controller is not wireless, however, and requires a USB-A connection to the console or PC. PC users will also need to have Windows 11 installed, as it appears to be the only supported operating system. Hori also notes that some Nintendo Switch 1 and Nintendo Switch 2 games may not be compatible with the device and that it lacks some Joy-Con 2 features, including the gyro sensor and vibration.

One of the Arcade Classic Pro’s more interesting features is its “Rapid Fire Function,” which could come in handy in many retro-style shooter games on Nintendo Switch consoles. According to Hori, the feature offers two modes: Rapid Fire and Rapid Fire Hold. With the former, users can continue shooting while holding the button, while the latter automates shooting altogether, with fire rates of 5, 10, or 20 shots per second.

At the time of writing, the official Hori USA website seems to have no information about the Arcade Classic Pro’s availability. However, given that most of Hori’s other products are sold outside Japan, the new controller could eventually make its way to the US store as well. For now, fans outside Japan will have to wait for Hori to announce its plans for international shipments and pricing.
