A brand-new survival game with an open-world map and co-op support called Velkor has been announced for PC via Steam, with a recent trailer revealing several aspects of its gameplay. The game is slated to launch on Steam in 2026, and it seemingly will not begin as an early-access title because the developer has said it intends to give fans the “full game.”
Open-world game enthusiasts have already been treated to a couple of exciting releases in 2026, including The Blood of Dawnwalker and Valheim‘s long-anticipated 1.0 version. They also have several open-world games to look forward to, such as Fable, The Witcher 4, and Light No Fire. Now, Velkor could also find its way onto some gamers’ wishlists, as it appears to have an intriguing premise.
Velkor Is a Life Sim With Zombies and PvP

A new trailer for Velkor has revealed that it takes place in a post-apocalyptic world infested with zombie-like creatures, hostile enemies, and rogue robots. The game features online co-op multiplayer and supports PvP combat between squads. Its core gameplay appears similar to games like Rust, where the primary goals are to loot better gear and build more advanced strongholds while keeping the character alive by tending to basic survival needs such as food and water.
Missions and Branching Dialogues
Alongside its exploration and survival-focused content, Velkor will also feature a campaign and random quests. Developer Zazuna claims that players can “meet characters, talk to them, trade, and make decisions through a branching dialogue system.” That said, it remains unclear whether players will be able to complete quests with shared progression, as in some other co-op survival games, or whether story progress will be tied to the host.
Base-Building Mechanics and Customization Options

Velkor also appears poised to become a survival game with a strong focus on base-building. According to the developers, the game features “a construction system with object previews and snap-based placement.” Players will be able to customize their builds to their liking while choosing from various defensive options to protect them from hostile creatures and invading enemies, potentially using mechanics similar to the traps found in Sons of the Forest. More details about Velkor‘s base-building systems have yet to be revealed.
Although Velkor‘s gameplay trailer looks promising, there is no guarantee that the game will deliver at launch. In recent years, an increasing number of indie, AA, and even AAA open-world games have flopped despite intriguing pre-release marketing. One notable example is The Day Before, which was marketed as the next big open-world survival phenomenon but ultimately received Overwhelmingly Negative user reviews and contributed to the developer’s closure. It remains to be seen whether Velkor will suffer a similar fate or manage to deliver on its promise and join the ranks of popular indie open-world games on Steam.
Velkor is planned for release on PC via Steam sometime in 2026. At the time of writing, developer Zazuna has not discussed any plans to bring the game to consoles.
