At this point, it seems pretty clear that Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm is working on a follow-up to 2017’s Injustice 2. And now we have even more evidence that Injustice 3 is in active development, thanks to a snippet from the resume of someone connected to the studio. We also might have our first two confirmed characters, and one of them wasn’t in the first two Injustice titles.
On September 21, MP1st reported that it had seen a stuntworker’s resume that included a direct reference to motion capture sessions for a game simply named “Injustice 3.” The outlet reports that this stuntworker has collaborated in the past with NetherRealm and was involved in past projects from the studio. So it’s not surprising they would also be involved in motion capture work on Injustice 3, a game that has yet to be officially confirmed or announced by WB or NetherRealm Studios.
Interestingly, the stunt performer’s resume includes two character names: Supergirl and Batwoman.
The first name makes sense, as Supergirl was a major player during the events of Injustice 2, a game that is somehow nearly a decade old in 2026. So it ain’t a shock that she’s back for the sequel. The other hero listed on the resume, Batwoman, is a bit more intriguing. As pointed out by MP1st, Batwoman died in the Injustice comics, which are considered canon to the games. The games even directly reference the comics. So what’s up? Well, remember, these are comic books we’re talking about. Nobody stays dead for good. It’s also possible another character will take up the mantle of Batwoman. Or maybe there’s some weird time-travel stuff happening in Injustice 3. NetherRealm’s last game was Mortal Kombat 1, a soft reboot of the entire MK universe.
As mentioned already, this isn’t the first bit of evidence we have for Injustice 3′s existence. Last week, a video game playtest in California was believed to be connected to Injustice 3. And earlier this year, MP1st reported that it had spotted the game’s name on an artist’s resume. So it seems likely that NetherRealm is finally returning to the DC universe after nearly a decade away.
Injustice 3 being in development sounds great to me. I mean, that new mobile DC fighting game, DCKO, looks fine and all, but I’m ready for another big, AAA DC fighting game from the Mortal Kombat studio. Hopefully we’ll find out more in the not-so-distant future.
