Data found in a leak from Rockstar Games has uncovered an apparent plan to bring Grand Theft Auto 5 players to Paris. Unfortunately, this GTA 5 DLC has since been scrapped, but the leak provides an interesting glimpse into what could have happened with the game.
Earlier in September, a major leak of 192GB worth of data originating from Rockstar Games appeared on the internet, and dataminers have been poring over the GTA leak since. While most of the data appears to pertain to Grand Theft Auto 5, there were also some discoveries made regarding GTA 6, namely in the form of an early screenshot of the Vice City map players will soon be able to explore. With so much data to go through, it seems that some discoveries are still being made and shared.
Grand Theft Auto 5 DLC Would Have Taken Players to France
More data from the leak has now been explored, which has revealed an apparent visit to Paris was being planned for Grand Theft Auto 5. While digging through unfinished levels, dataminers discovered that there was an apartment that was apparently located just outside the Eiffel Tower, which could be seen from the balcony. As with much of the content shared from the leaks, images of the apartment appear to have been taken down following numerous copyright takedown requests being made. What is known, however, is that the Eiffel Tower was only shown as a flat image beyond the balcony.

With little to go on, a lot remains unanswered regarding the discovery. It’s possible that the Eiffel Tower being a flat background could indicate that players would only be getting a glimpse of the apartment, like in a cutscene, and may not have ever actually accessed it themselves. However, it’s also possible that the flat background was only a placeholder, but that the development of the DLC never got far enough to go beyond that point. While not as massive as the Pokemon Teraleaks, there may yet be more discoveries to be found in the GTA leak that could shed more light on the matter in the days or weeks to come.
The notion of a new GTA game being set in another country has been brought up before, and nearly came to fruition at one point. A prior chat with former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij revealed that the idea was explored, but ultimately didn’t happen. Ideas for other locations that GTA might have visited included Rio de Janeiro, Moscow, and Tokyo, with an apparent plan of handing the GTA code to another studio to produce a GTA: Tokyo game. While there’s been some argument that a full GTA game outside the US wouldn’t work well, a DLC mission or expansion might have served as a good middle ground. However, that belief may have also been part of the reason for the DLC’s cancellation.
Unfortunately, this could be the closest that players ever get to visiting Paris in GTA, or seeing any further expansions to Grand Theft Auto 5, for that matter. The leaked GTA data also includes assets from a Liberty City expansion, as well as some pertaining to the planned Agent Trevor DLC. It was previously noted that the Agent Trevor DLC was canceled because GTA Online has been insanely profitable for Take-Two Interactive. Given that a leak from 2023 indicated that eight single-player DLCs were once in the works for GTA 5, it remains to be seen if this recently leaked data contains anything else that could shed light on their planned content.
