Dark Souls 2 just received a major multiplayer overhaul mod that lets as many as six players stay seamlessly connected throughout the entire game. FromSoftware’s Dark Souls 2 originally used the standard Soulslike summoning system, which regularly separates co-op partners after bosses, deaths, and area transitions.
That traditional co-op structure may have let players experience large portions of Dark Souls 2 with friends, but it unfortunately required a lot of resummoning and coordination along the way, which may leave many players feeling too restricted. Modder Yui, who previously developed seamless co-op projects for Elden Ring and the original Dark Souls, has now brought that same concept to Dark Souls 2‘s multiplayer systems in an attempt to make a full cooperative playthrough much less cumbersome.
Dark Souls 2 Gets Seamless Co-Op for Up to 6 Players
Yui released Dark Souls 2 Seamless Co-op on September 22, 2026, allowing a host to play alongside up to five other players in a six-person party. The mod is currently in alpha, so bugs are to be expected, but Yui says players can theoretically begin at the tutorial and continue all the way through the final boss in one uninterrupted session. Deaths no longer disband the group because fallen players respawn at their last bonfire, while boss victories no longer send companions home, and multiplayer fog walls have been completely removed. NPC dialogue is also synchronized across the party, while progression events completed during online play also carry over to each player’s own world. YouTuber Amirah recorded plenty of footage of the mod in action with Yui and even included a full install guide with the upload. Fans should note that the mod is currently limited to the PC version of Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, version 1.03.
What’s more, the Dark Souls 2 overhaul extends well beyond simply raising the player limit. Seamless Co-op also adds custom items for hosting, joining, invading, and leaving multiplayer sessions, and lets players reconnect to a host from anywhere in the world. The mod also rebuilds parts of the game’s peer-to-peer multiplayer using Steam’s newer networking technology and adds proximity voice chat, so conversations can grow quieter or louder depending on how far apart players are. Invasions remain supported as well if the host has them enabled, and when an invasion is active, players cannot rest at bonfires or warp until the hostile player has been defeated.
Yui has also added options intended to keep a six-player run from becoming completely trivial now that players have numbers on their side. Enemy health can now scale further based on the number of players present, while boss fights prevent anyone from resting at bonfires during the encounter. Players who die during a boss battle will enter a limbo state and spectate until the remaining party either wins, wipes, or reaches a bonfire. An optional Cursed Soul Fragment system can also make enemies progressively more dangerous after repeated deaths, eventually triggering what the mod describes as a “disaster” if players keep going without resetting. These systems are intended to give co-op groups some control over how punishing their Dark Souls 2 playthrough can eventually become.
Early fan reaction across Reddit and Nexus Mods has been enthusiastic, with players already discussing full-group replays and experimenting with features like proximity chat. Its current alpha status remains an important caveat, however, as some users have reported crashes, installation problems, and other rough edges while Yui continues issuing updates. The mod also uses separate save files and prevents players from connecting to FromSoftware’s standard matchmaking servers, helping keep the experience isolated from the normal online environment and reducing the risk of bans. More than a decade after Dark Souls 2 first launched, PC players can now potentially experience almost the entire adventure with the same group of friends in one seamless playthrough.
