SiN Reloaded, a fully remastered edition of the original game, is now available on PC and consoles. Ritual Entertainment’s SiN is an important part of first-person shooter history, as it helped pave the way for many of its modern peers. But it is also one of the genre’s underrated gems, deserving of greater recognition and credit.
SiN was initially released in November 1998, the same month Valve officially launched the first Half-Life game. Some argue that SiN was overshadowed by Half-Life‘s commercial success, which is one of the reasons it never amassed the same audience as some other FPS games of its time. Whatever the reason, the edgy shooter of the 90s now has a second chance to appeal to a larger audience in 2026, as its 28th anniversary approaches.

Developed by Nightdive Studios, SiN Reloaded is a faithful remaster of Ritual Entertainment’s original 1998 game, featuring added quality-of-life mechanics, improved visuals, and streamlined controls. Priced at $29.99 USD, the remastered edition also includes the Wages of Sin expansion, which adds more missions and expands the story. SiN Reloaded also allows fans of retro shooter games to toggle the new visuals off or revert the gameplay settings to their original state for the same experience as the 1998 release.

SiN Reloaded Launches to Very Positive Reviews
On Steam, SiN Reloaded launched to a solid 93% positive user rating. Reviews on PlayStation and Xbox also appear promising, with the PS5 and PS4 versions currently holding an average user score of 4.5 out of 5. According to OpenCritic, SiN Reloaded has an average top critic score of 71 out of 100, slightly below its user reception. However, the game is still relatively new, and the number of reviews remains limited at the time of writing.
The original SiN introduced several creative mechanics and gimmicks that were uncommon in most mainstream FPS games of the 90s. For instance, players could discover alternative paths and sections of each mission that added variety to the level design, albeit through relatively minor changes. Moreover, enemies in SiN reacted differently to bullets depending on where they were shot. Shooting them in the legs, for example, would cause them to wobble, while shooting their guns would knock them out of their hands. Fortunately, developer Nightdive Studios has retained all of these features in SiN Reloaded while giving most of them much-needed overhauls.
In 2006, SiN attempted something similar to Half-Life‘s episodic release model with SiN Episodes. However, the project ultimately disappeared after the release of its first episode, Emergence. It is worth noting that developer Nightdive Studios has purchased the rights to the SiN IP from original creator Ritual Entertainment. As a result, there is a slight possibility that, should the current remastered edition perform well, the team could consider continuing work on SiN Episodes. That said, nothing has been officially confirmed at the time of writing.
