A remake of the original Splinter Cell game was first announced nearly five years ago, and since then, we’ve seen exactly zero seconds of the game in action, or even a trailer. However, as we know with Sam Fisher, silence can be deceiving, and it looks like Ubisoft is actively recruiting for several roles on the project.
Spotted by Insider Gaming, job openings for a few different positions, including level designer and producer, have been posted within the last few months. This isn’t necessarily indicative of how far along the project is–people are hired and leave all the time–but it does at least let us know that the project is still in active development. It’s also not the first time we’ve seen job listings pop up, but with company in as volatile a state as Ubisoft, you never know.
It’s unclear exactly what shape this remake will take, as geopolitical dynamics have changed quite a bit since 2002. It’s also unclear how much influence it would take from the later games in the series, with Conviction and Blacklist both including more action-aligned mechanics like Mark & Execute.
Since the release of Splinter Cell Blacklist in 2013, we haven’t gotten a new Splinter Cell game. Sam Fisher has made numerous appearances, however, including a few guest missions in Ghost Recon and an inclusion in Rainbow Six Siege. The Netflix animated series also released last year, with Liev Schreiber taking over voice duties from Michael Ironside.
