California-based Renegade Game Studios’ Dungeon Crawler Carl Roleplaying Game is on track to begin shipping to backers in October 2026. Designed for groups of two or more, the tabletop RPG lets players enter the World Dungeon as crawlers while another takes the role of a Game Master, giving the crowdfunded adaptation a co-op structure centered on survival.
The RPG is one of the first major tabletop adaptations of Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl series, which follows Carl and Princess Donut through a deadly alien-produced dungeon crawl presented as an eccentric intergalactic reality show. Renegade announced its partnership with Dinniman in July 2025, initially identifying a full-scale role-playing game as the first project in a broader tabletop line, before formally revealing the RPG and a separate card game later that year.

And Digital Fulfillment Is Already Underway
Renegade’s latest BackerKit update says pledges remain on track to start shipping in October 2026, while the publisher finishes calculating individual shipping charges for campaign supporters. The campaign page currently lists an estimated ship-by date of October 31, 2026. That timing applies to crowdfunding fulfillment rather than the general retail launch: Renegade’s current store listings place the TRPG’s Core Rulebook and Starter Set in November 2026, consistent with the company’s earlier announcement that retail releases for the Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG would arrive in late November. Digital fulfillment is already further along, with PDF copies of the RPG materials distributed to eligible backers beginning in August 2026.
The upcoming physical fulfillment follows a crowdfunding campaign that far exceeded its original target. Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG and the separately developed Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable raised nearly $13.3 million from 55,972 backers against a $250,000 goal before the campaign closed on May 19, 2026. Renegade says the project became the most-funded game campaign in BackerKit history, while also reporting that it raised more than $4.57 million in its first 24 hours and crossed $1 million within 19 minutes. The crowdfunding campaign’s scale thus established the RPG as a major tabletop extension of the franchise months before physical copies began shipping.
What to Expect From Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG
Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG uses an original skill-based tabletop system built around the hazards, progression systems, and commercialized spectacle of the World Dungeon. It supports groups as small as two people, with one crawler and one Game Master, while larger groups can add more crawler characters. Players can create original crawlers with customizable skills, races, classes, and backgrounds or use existing characters such as Carl and Princess Donut. The Starter Set covers tutorial Floors 1 and 2 and includes an introductory scenario, pre-generated characters, maps, tokens, and dice.
The 300-plus-page Core Rulebook focuses on Floors 3 through 5 and expands mechanics related to character creation, spells, loot, mobs, and safe rooms, among several others. Renegade says the Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG Game Master can act as both a co-op ally and adversary, controlling guides and NPCs alongside mobs, bosses, and the Dungeon AI.
