After reports started emerging that Xbox had managed to secure exclusive streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6, a company executive weighed in on the situation and denied obtaining such rights. Rumors about a possible exclusive deal between Xbox and Grand Theft Auto 6 quickly spread online because, if true, it would mean PC users could also play the game at launch.
Whispers began after The Verge reported on Xbox CEO Asha Sharma’s new comments about Grand Theft Auto 6 during a meeting with employees. According to the outlet, Sharma said that Xbox is doing something around GTA 6‘s release that no other platform is doing. This sparked speculation that the company had secured exclusive streaming rights for its Xbox Cloud Gaming service. However, Xbox has now shut down the rumors.
On October 7, only hours after the rumors emerged, Xbox CSO Matthew Ball posted on Twitter to clarify the misunderstanding. Ball said, “We are looking forward to launching [GTA 6] on Xbox November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.” While the wording remains somewhat vague, one thing is clear: there is no exclusive streaming deal and no workaround for streaming GTA 6 on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
