Ubisoft Game Permanently Shutting Down in January 2027

Ubisoft Game Permanently Shutting Down in January 2027

Live-service games are often built around the idea that players will return for years, with seasonal updates, new content, and community events keeping an experience active long after launch. For publishers like Ubisoft, maintaining that momentum can be just as important as getting people to try a game in the first place. Even so, not every release gets the long-term future its developers originally envisioned, and some games end up with a much shorter lifespan than players might expect. That’s the backdrop to a new Ubisoft game shutting down in January 2027.

A game’s closure can be especially difficult to process, particularly when players have only recently had the chance to experience its full release. Years of development and testing can lead to a launch that feels like the beginning of a new chapter, only for plans to change within months. For players who have invested time in a 2026 live-service game’s seasonal content and building a community, an announced shutdown date suddenly puts a limit on how much longer they can enjoy the experience.

Rainbow Six Tactics Preview

During Gamescom 2026, GameRant got to see a behind-closed-doors demo of Rainbow Six Tactics, a single-player spinoff that has some surprising depth.

Ubisoft Officially Announces the Shutdown Date for Rainbow Six Mobile

An official update from Ubisoft has confirmed that Rainbow Six Mobile will shut down on January 15, 2027, giving players just a few more months before the game becomes unavailable. In a message to the community, the Rainbow Six Mobile development team said it had made the “difficult decision to sunset” the game. The next season will still launch as planned next week, but Ubisoft says it will share additional details in the coming weeks to help players prepare for the transition. As Ubisoft stated,

“There’s no easy way to put it: we have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile. The game will remain available until January 15, 2027. The next season will be released as planned next week.”

Rainbow Six Mobile only fully launched around seven months ago. The game had been in soft launch since 2023, during which time players helped shape Rainbow Six Mobile‘s development across 15 seasons. Ubisoft thanked the community for contributing strategies, videos, memes, tournaments, and memorable in-game moments, while also expressing pride in the team’s work bringing the Rainbow Six experience to a new audience.

Ubisoft has not provided a detailed explanation for the shutdown in its message. The development team did, however, confirm that its members will move on to other long-term strategic projects. Until January 15, 2027, the Rainbow Six game will remain available, and the next season is still scheduled to arrive as planned. Ubisoft has promised further updates in the coming weeks, which should clarify what players can expect as the end date approaches.

For now, players have a firm date to keep in mind, even if the announcement leaves plenty of questions unanswered. The January shutdown will bring Rainbow Six Mobile to an end less than a year after its full launch, closing a project that had been in development and soft launch for several years before reaching that milestone. At least the community has a little more time with the game before Ubisoft officially pulls the plug.
