Magic: The Gathering has revealed the game’s next big crossover with Marvel, launching a new Secret Lair Countdown Kit, including plenty of iconic heroes from the comic book juggernaut. The collaboration joins multiple upcoming Marvel content releases for Magic: The Gathering.
Marvel has easily become one of Magic: The Gathering‘s most prominent partners for new crossover content. Wizards of the Coast has already debuted multiple full Magic sets based on Marvel properties, launching a Spider-Man set in late 2025 and a broader Marvel Super Heroes crossover in June 2026. The trading card game has also launched a multitude of Secret Lairs featuring new cards based on beloved superheroes like Deadpool, Storm, and Captain America. Now, Wizards of the Coast has confirmed another big Marvel crossover coming in late 2026, including a particularly notable reprint.
Magic: The Gathering Reveals New Marvel’s History of Heroes Release
During New York Comic Con, Wizards of the Coast officially revealed the new Marvel’s History of Heroes Secret Lair. The promo set comes with 30 different reprints of plenty of Magic: The Gathering‘s most iconic cards, featuring artwork of heroes from throughout Marvel history. The announcement of the Secret Lair showcased several cards from the set, including a Namor-styled version of powerful counterspell card Fierce Guardianship, which sells for upwards of $60 on the secondary market. Other popular cards like Heroic Intervention and Opposition Agent were also confirmed to appear in Magic‘s new Marvel crossover, which is scheduled to go on sale on November 2 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
Magic: The Gathering‘s newest Secret Lair is not the only upcoming Marvel release from the product line. The recently revealed Corn Maze Superdrop featured a crossover with Marvel: Zombies for the Halloween season, including zombified versions of characters like Scarlet Witch and Captain America. The massive Secret Lair release also included two more crossovers with popular media properties, adding cards featuring artwork based on KPop Demon Hunters and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth.
One of Magic: The Gathering‘s biggest reveals at New York Comic Con was the next major Marvel expansion for the game. Wizards of the Coast gave fans a first look at Magic‘s Darkhold Destiny expansion, debuting in early 2027, featuring an original story created in conjunction with Marvel. The set will feature plenty of iconic Marvel characters, already showing cards for Dr. Strange and Gargantos, and Wizards of the Coast is also working with Marvel to create a brand-new character to be introduced in the set. Darkhold Destiny will launch as the first major crossover set of 2027, and is scheduled to release on April 9.
Magic: The Gathering is primed to have an exciting year ahead, with a plethora of major releases in store. Wizards of the Coast has confirmed the three in-universe Magic sets planned to launch in 2027, debuting Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, Kamigawa Titanbreach, and Zhalfir throughout the year. The trading card game will also welcome two more Universes Beyond sets after Darkhold Destiny, scheduled to release in August and November. Magic fans should have plenty to look forward to from the beloved trading card game, between new in-universe content and crossovers.
