No Man’s Sky is officially getting a new release on October 28, bringing the universe-exploring game to even more people. No Man’s Sky has come a very long way since its original launch, and now it’s passing another major milestone.
No Man’s Sky originally launched a decade ago, and is one of the most successful instances of a game arriving as a disappointment, only to turn it around in a big way. Over the years, updates have added new content and gameplay mechanics, turning No Man’s Sky into a major hit that still sees tens of thousands of players daily on Steam alone.
No Man’s Sky Gets New Release
No Man’s Sky will officially launch for iPhone and iPad devices on October 28. The game isn’t a “lite” mobile version, but rather a full experience, with over forty of the major updates the existing versions of the game have received over the years, including the recent Cosmos update. Impressively, the game only demands 4GB worth of storage, and the team at Hello Games has worked hard to make it compatible with a significant number of iOS devices. The game can be played on iPhone 11 and up, and 3rd generation iPad Air and above, with the App Store confirming the game will require iOS 26 or later, and a device with the A12 Bionic chip or better. Players can check out the beginning of the game for free, with the full title costing $19.99.

However, there are some missing features and other factors to consider with the mobile iOS version of the game. No Man’s Sky‘s Planetary Settlements feature will only be available to users on iPhone 15 Pro or better, and the game will completely lack multiplayer at launch. While the team hasn’t directly promised to eventually add said feature, it did point out that the Switch version launched in a similar state, and eventually grew to include more on the Switch 2 version. If the iOS version performs well, the team will “support it appropriately,” perhaps leading to additional features later on.
On the other hand, unique considerations and features went into bringing the game to iPhones and iPads. This version of No Man’s Sky features touch-screen controls, but will provide support for controllers on all devices, plus mouse and keyboard for iPad, and players can cast the game to their TVs. The game has seen a “ton of work” put into maximizing battery life and reducing heat output, so that the game can be enjoyed for longer periods of time comfortably.
No Man’s Sky is likely to see new players and more attention following the release of both the Cosmos update and this new iOS version. But Hello Games is already gearing up for what’s ahead. Hello Games’ next game, Light No Fire, will give players a multiplayer fantasy world survival sandbox to explore, survive, and develop together. The game seems like it’s inspired by and includes much of the DNA and concepts that No Man’s Sky has created and refined since its release, albeit on a single planet. While it currently lacks a release window, players can wishlist the game now.
