Pokemon TCG Pocket has announced a big change coming to the pack release schedule, as well as other changes meant to improve the overall game. Released in 2024, Pokemon TCG Pocket is a mobile version of the popular collectible card game. For fans that want to collect, trade, and play the card game without purchasing packs or struggling to get the newest set in stores, Pokemon TCG Pocket can be a cheaper alternative.
While the game launched to massive success, Pokemon TCG Pocket has had some struggles over the last two years. In August 2026, co-developer DeNa attributed a drop in revenue directly to the game. Pokemon TCG Pocket apparently saw a 41% decline in monthly players, dropping from 39 million to 23 million in one year.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Outlines Upcoming Changes
Player retention has been a problem for Pokemon TCG Pocket, and the developers have outlined major changes intended to turn things around. In a post on Twitter, DeNa confirmed a change relating to the frequency of booster pack releases. Under the current schedule, new booster packs are released approximately every four weeks. This release schedule has apparently caused frustration for some players, as the frequency makes it more difficult to complete sets. The game will now switch to a schedule where boosters are released every six weeks, starting with the game’s C Series.
Since launch, immersive cards have been highly-sought after in Pokemon TCG Pocket. The only way to get these cards is by opening boosters, but that will also change. Immersive cards will be available through mission rewards, and players will receive them by completing specific collections. Event missions will also be held as a way of offering new 1-Star promo cards. These missions will arrive weekly during a three-week period. A Special Pack called First Partners is coming soon, and will focus on the starter Pokemon from each of the nine regions from the mainline games. These Special Packs will use a different type of Stamina, which will be refreshed on a weekly basis.
Battles are also undergoing changes in Pokemon TCG Pocket. Community Decks are coming, allowing players to see popular decks, or ones used by their friends. They will then be able to easily replicate them with their own cards, as a way to help those struggling with deck building. Rental decks will also be playable as soon as new booster packs are released, and there will be no restrictions on how often they can be used. They will even be usable in versus battles, should players so choose. Battle events will begin with C Series, which will limit the eligible cards that can be used. Changes are also underway for trades in the game, in order to make them easier.
Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s C1 Expansion is expected October 30, so players won’t have to wait long to see the impact of these changes. While it may have lost a lot of players, Pokemon TCG Pocket has a much higher user base than a lot of other games. It doesn’t seem like the game is in any danger of shutting down soon, but the developers clearly want to get things under control, and keep players invested.
