Magic: The Gathering is showing off the artwork for five new cards planned to be released as part of the upcoming Star Trek set, believed to be new full-art versions of the Basic Land cards. The Star Trek collaboration with Magic will be the card game’s final set of 2026.
Wizards of the Coast has given fans plenty to be excited about ahead of the launch of Magic‘s newest crossover expansion. The Star Trek set will bring many of the franchise’s most iconic characters into the long-running trading card game, adding cards based on characters like Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and the Borg Queen. The crossover will span multiple different generations of Star Trek, including cards themed around Star Trek: The Original Series, The Next Generation, Voyager, and more. Now, fans are getting a first look at some stunning new full-art cards releasing with the Star Trek crossover.
Magic: The Gathering Shows Off New Star Trek Cards
A recent post to Magic: The Gathering‘s social media accounts showcases new artwork in the Star Trek expansion. Each artwork features a team of characters beaming down into a variety of unique, breathtaking environments, from lush forests to foreboding mountains. Many fans speculated that the lineup of artwork belongs to the full-art cycle of Basic Land cards in the set, with five different pieces of artwork to represent Forest, Island, Mountain, Plains, and Swamp cards. Magic: The Gathering‘s Star Trek expansion is currently scheduled to release on November 13, with pre-release events beginning on November 6.
The new Basic Lands are far from the only cards Magic: The Gathering has revealed from the Star Trek expansion. Wizards of the Coast teased special autographed Magic cards as some of the biggest chase cards available in the set, signed by iconic Star Trek actors like William Shatner and Sir Patrick Stewart. The Star Trek expansion will also include four different Commander Decks themed around beloved Star Trek characters, including decks for Spock, Captain Picard, Worf, and the Borg Queen.
The Star Trek expansion has already been met with production woes ahead of its launch in November. Wizards of the Coast revealed in late September that it would be shelving one of the products originally planned to release with the set, confirming the cancellation of the Star Trek Beginner Boxes. The company later shared that multiple Star Trek products are facing delays in their release schedule, including Commander Decks being pushed back in North America and Collector Boosters, Draft Night boxes, and more being delayed in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Magic‘s Star Trek set will close out a particularly busy year for the trading card game, which has seen six prior major sets. The trading card game debuted three new in-universe sets to conclude Magic‘s “Metronome” story arc, which began in 2023 with the release of Wilds of Eldraine. Magic introduced plenty of new crossovers in 2026 as well, launching full expansions centered around collaborations with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Super Heroes, and The Hobbit. Wizards of the Coast has given Magic players plenty to look forward to in 2026, and aims to maintain that into 2027.
