Mycopunk is a co-op looter shooter on Steam that launched its 1.0 version on October 20 and received very positive user reviews. The game first arrived on Steam in July 2025 as an early-access title and has since received regular updates, with patches continuing after its full release. Mycopunk‘s gameplay and progression have drawn comparisons to games like Destiny and Helldivers 2, but it also offers several creative features rarely seen in the genre.
In Mycopunk, up to four players can join the New Atlas Hazard Crew, a group of expendable robots tasked with killing fungal-infected alien technology. A typical mission involves landing on a planet, surviving waves of hostile creatures, and returning to base in one piece, either as a team or solo. That said, Mycopunk also features missions with varied styles, including roguelike game modes and dungeons.
Mycopunk Now Has Very Positive Reviews on Steam and PS5
At the time of writing, 88% of Mycopunk‘s user reviews across all languages are positive, earning the game a Very Positive rating. Meanwhile, the most recent reviews, posted after Mycopunk‘s 1.0 release, show an average of 81% positive ratings. Mycopunk has also launched on PS5 and is now part of the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra plans. It has earned a user score of 3.9 out of 5 on the PlayStation Store.
Mycopunk has a couple of gameplay features that can set it apart from typical co-op looter shooters. For one, enemies can grab limbs and other body parts from their fallen fellows to enhance themselves. Players must therefore destroy everything piece by piece to avoid accidentally creating stronger, mutated enemies. Another interesting feature is Mycopunk‘s weapon upgrade system. The game uses a grid-based system that plays like Tetris. Any modules that players can fit on the grid stay on their weapon, adding an inventory management twist to weapon upgrades.

The 1.0 update for Mycopunk also introduced several new features, including a brand-new playable character, weapon, mission, and region, along with numerous performance improvements. That said, Mycopunk still suffers from some bugs and glitches common in many indie Steam games punching above their weight. Developer Pigeons at Play has been actively fixing issues and has released two patches since the 1.0 launch, as of this writing.
Mycopunk has also received an impressive reception from critics. According to OpenCritic’s data, the game has an average score of 8 out of 10 from the handful of reviewers who have rated it so far. Mycopunk also caught the attention of Randy Pitchford, co-founder and president of Gearbox, the studio behind the Borderlands series. When Mycopunk launched in early access, Pitchford suggested on Twitter that it was quite an addictive game.
