Evil Timefall is a 2025 first-person shooter on Steam that recently dropped its $1.50 USD price tag and went free-to-play. The only catch is that the indie game currently has mixed reviews on Steam, with some negative reviews saying it should’ve been free-to-play from the start. Now that the game has listened to this feedback, more players might be interested in checking it out to see if it’s worth their time.
Developer Pinadva Games says the team drew inspiration from the 1992 cult classic movie Army of Darkness. The movie’s influence can be seen in Evil Timefall‘s setting, which features medieval castles while the protagonist wields modern-day weapons. For those who haven’t watched Army of Darkness, the movie follows a time traveler who gets stuck in the medieval era and must fight a massive army of the undead.
Evil Timefall Is Now Completely Free on Steam
In early October, the developer announced the change, saying, “We’re making [Evil Timefall free-to-play] so more players can enjoy the game.” The core gameplay loop involves entering monster-infested zones and taking down enemies with the protagonist’s primary weapons. Like other FPS games with roguelike elements, Evil Timefall also offers upgrades and power-ups between levels. Additionally, players can collect coins to unlock more weapons along the way.
Evil Timefall is considered a retro-style boomer shooter, with developer Pinadva Games describing it as a “hardcore FPS.” However, unlike other titles in the genre, Evil Timefall doesn’t offer much replay value, and most players report being able to beat the campaign in one sitting. That could be an issue for a paid game, but now that Evil Timefall is free-to-play on Steam, players might be more forgiving of its limited content.

October has been a good month for fans of free shooter games, as several paid titles in the genre have recently dropped their price tags. One example is Radiant Exodus, a survival first-person shooter with 90% positive reviews that suddenly went free-to-play. Additionally, Shenaniguns, a co-op shooter with similarly positive reviews, also became free on Steam this month.
Fans looking for even more alternatives can also check out Cyberfrags ’69 on Steam. It’s a multiplayer FPS with fast-paced matches and high replay value. Like the other games mentioned in this article, Cyberfrags used to be a paid game on Steam, but its developer decided to release its final version as a free-to-play game.
