Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is finally getting one of its most requested features, nearly 6 years after the massive open-world Assassin’s Creed RPG first launched. Ubisoft has continued supporting the Assassin’s Creed franchise with new games, remakes, and updates in that time span, but AC Valhalla remains one of its most successful releases. That said, the new update is surprising all the same.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has now surpassed 40 million players, giving Ubisoft another reason to celebrate the 2020 release. While the game received several major expansions and free updates throughout its lifespan, fans have spent years requesting New Game Plus, which would allow them to replay Eivor’s story without starting completely from scratch. Ubisoft previously moved away from adding the feature, leaving many players believing it would never happen. However, the company has now changed course, and the update is bringing considerably more than just another opportunity to experience the campaign.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Finally Gets New Game Plus
Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will finally receive New Game Plus on November 5, with the announcement being made as part of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise update. New Game Plus will allow players to restart Eivor’s adventure while carrying over much of their previous progression, including favorite equipment and character builds. The mode will also feature dedicated difficulty scaling, meaning returning players shouldn’t expect to simply overpower everything with their existing gear.

However, New Game Plus isn’t the only addition coming to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Ubisoft is also introducing an optional progression system that combines Gear, Runes, and Masteries to determine Eivor’s overall Power. There’s a new resource called Mithril, which can be used to upgrade Divine Gear and strengthen runes, while Divine Gear quality will become available for all items. The update also includes new achievements, additional runes, a stash system, and several rewards. Perhaps the most interesting is a Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, giving Eivor a new look inspired by one of the franchise’s more recent protagonists.

The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla announcement is part of a much bigger update about the franchise’s future. Ubisoft also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has received its final major content update, introducing New Game Plus and more. Meanwhile, the darker upcoming game Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe will receive its next major update in 2027, and the multiplayer project Codename Invictus remains in development. Ubisoft also shockingly confirmed that no other Assassin’s Creed remakes are currently being developed, although the company hasn’t ruled out revisiting more classic entries in the future.
There’s still more to learn about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s New Game Plus update, with Ubisoft promising full patch notes and additional information about current-generation console improvements in the coming days. The company also plans to use feedback from this release when considering similar updates for other Assassin’s Creed games, potentially making its reception important beyond AC Valhalla itself.
