New Steam RPG Phantom Blade Zero has surpassed 830,000 concurrent players upon its recent release. The achievement gives Phantom Blade Zero one of the highest peak Steam player counts of all time, with numbers holding steady since its launch.
Phantom Blade Zero is a brand-new wuxia action RPG, developed by S-Game as a spiritual successor to the Rainblood series. While the previous games used a 2D art style, Phantom Blade Zero moves to 3D with Unreal Engine 5, a massive step forward in visual fidelity. The game began development in 2022, was announced to massive fanfare in 2023, and has continued to build hype all the way through to its recent release on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Phantom Blade Zero Passes 830,000 Concurrent Steam Players After Excellent Reviews

Following its launch on October 29, Phantom Blade Zero has achieved a peak concurrent player count of 833,921, according to SteamDB. It reached this number on November 1, the first Sunday after its release, and has comfortably surpassed 700,000 concurrent players every day before and since. As Phantom Blade Zero is a single-player title, the player count will likely drop off over time, but it’s definitely holding very steady for now.
The incredible number makes Phantom Blade Zero 14th on the list of highest all-time peak Steam player counts. Ahead of it are similar games like Elden Ring, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Black Myth Wukong, but it’s an incredible feat nonetheless. With 833,921 concurrent players, Phantom Blade Zero also officially becomes the 2026 release with the second-highest concurrent Steam player count, only behind Palworld, which peaked at 961,867 players when it came out of Early Access back in July.
Three years of hype have definitely contributed to Phantom Blade Zero‘s massive success. But equally, word of mouth is also a huge factor for the new action RPG. On Steam, the game currently has “Very Positive” reviews, with 90% of reviews so far being positive. Critics are in agreement about the game’s quality, too. On OpenCritic, Phantom Blade Zero has a Top Critic Average of 88, indicating acclaim. It remains to be seen whether the game can top the 833,921 concurrent players it managed during its first launch weekend, but given the strong word of mouth, it has the best possible chance.
It remains to be seen whether S-Game decides to release post-launch DLC for Phantom Blade Zero. Given the enormous player counts on PC and PlayStation 5, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise, and the developer would likely be leaving a lot of money on the table if it opted not to. The game is officially one of the biggest games of the 2026 video game calendar, and it could definitely set itself up for further success in 2027 with more content.
