Deliverance Could Be Getting a Big Upgrade Soon

Warhorse Studios, the developer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, is seemingly teasing a potential current-gen upgrade for the game’s underrated predecessor from 2018. As the studio has now released the final DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it looks like it could be turning its attention back to the first entry in the series. When asked by a fan for a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrade for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Warhorse simply responded with the side-eye emoji. While it’s not exactly confirmation, it does feel like the studio is telling fans to keep their eyes peeled.

This is the first time Warhorse has indicated that there will be a current-gen upgrade for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, though there have been numerous leaks and rumors prior. Earlier this year, an insider who has a proven track record when it comes to the Kingdom Come: Deliverance franchise claimed that the 2018 RPG would receive a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S update early next year. According to their source, which supposedly has inside knowledge of what’s going on behind the scenes at Warhorse, this is “100% confirmed” and will likely be released somewhere between January and April. Fans should take this information with a pinch of salt, but the validity of this claim is now looking more genuine, as Warhorse itself now appears to be teasing fans.

Kingdom Come 2 vs. Expedition 33: Why GOTY May Not Be as Clear-Cut as You Think

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are heading into a final vote that may settle in a way few were expecting early this year.

Warhorse Teases Current-Gen Update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Earlier this week, two Twitter users were discussing iconic RPG titles such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Kingdom Come: Deliverance. One fan noted how they are “surprised” Warhorse hasn’t released a current-gen patch for Kingdom Come: Deliverance or “even a 60 FPS update” following the success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, speculating that many fans may be holding off from playing the sequel until the first game is brought to modern consoles. Another then simply said, “May it’s still on the way?” to which the official Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Twitter account responded with the side eye emoji, insinuating that the update could be in the works. Although no words were said, it’s hard not to believe that the 2018 classic will soon be getting a big upgrade.

If the rumored update is real, it’s possible that a reveal could take place at The Game Awards, which will take place on December 11. There’s no confirmation that this will happen, but given that Warhorse has decided to tease fans just days before the biggest gaming event of the year, there’s a chance fans may see an announcement sooner than they think. As for what the update itself may look like, fans are hoping to see support for 60 FPS, texture improvements, upgrades to global illumination and lighting, and possibly even gameplay mechanics from its successor, such as its much-improved combat system.

Warhorse Studios recently wrapped up the story of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 with its final DLC earlier this year, further adding to the fact that now would be the perfect time to release a current-gen upgrade for its predecessor and either give fans the ideal reason to jump back into the classic or check it out for the very first time. The sequel was much more successful than the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which means there are tons of players (myself included) who have experienced the ending of Henry’s story, but not the beginning. With the book now closed on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it’s the perfect time for those who missed out to see how it all began.

The Game Awards is shaping up to be a monumental night for Warhorse Studios, as fans are not only speculating that an announcement for a current-gen update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be at the event, but this year’s installment in the series has also been nominated for Game of the Year. While it’s a strong contender, 2025 has been an enormous year for gamers, which means it’s got some big competition. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 appears to be the frontrunner to win the coveted award, but Kingdom Come fans are eager to see the sequel take home the crown.
