Highly-Anticipated PS5 Exclusive for 2026 Just Got Its Release Date Delayed, But You Won't Have to Wait That Much Longer

As teased, Housemarque’s Saros made an appearance at The Game Awards, giving fans more gameplay footage, pre-order rewards, and an unfortunate update regarding its launch date. Originally revealed during the February 2025 State of Play, Saros is seen by most to be a spiritual successor to Housemarque’s popular PS5 title, Returnal. Saros players will be stepping into the shoes of a Soltari Enforcer named Arjun Devraj, played by Rahul Kohli, who appears to be locked in an endless fight against an unknown force.

While The Game Awards typically tries to keep its announcements a secret to capitalize on the level of surprise for those watching, there are some games that confirm things beforehand. Saros appearing at the 2025 Game Awards wasn’t a huge surprise thanks to the official PlayStation social media team confirming it just days prior to the show. However, the post didn’t go into detail on just what would be shown off, only confirming that fans would get another look at the game and posted a brief seven-second trailer. After teasing the community, fans finally got another glimpse at the upcoming title.

Many of the recent PlayStation exclusives have followed a similar storytelling trend that hopefully ends after Ghost of Yotei.

Saros Confirms New Release Date

A new trailer for Saros arrived at The Game Awards, giving fans another look at the third-person action shooter in addition to more of its mysterious story. The pre-order trailer showed off Kohli’s Arjun Devraj, more bullet-hell style gameplay, and the unique environments of Carcosa that players will be traversing. It also revealed new NPC characters who appear to be part of Devraj’s Soltari unit. However, things don’t appear to be going smoothly as the group bickers and fights with each other due to the events taking place on the planet.

Unfortunately, the news was met by a not so great revelation that Saros wouldn’t be making its original March launch date. In an accompanying blog post, creative director Gregory Louden confirmed that Saros needed more time in order for the studio to continue pushing the game to exceed the team’s vision. Thankfully, the date wasn’t moved too far, launching a month later on April 30, 2026.

In addition, Sony revealed pre-order and digital deluxe editions of Saros that fans can now pre-order. The Digital Deluxe edition gives players 48 hours early access, as well as three armor sets inspired by other PlayStation titles. The Astra Armour is based on Returnal, the Onryo Set for Ghost of Yotei, and the Midgard Armour resembles Kratos in the recent God of War games. By simply pre-ordering the game, players will also unlock the Hands of Shore Armour.

While the Game Awards reveal detailed plenty of new elements to the game, Housemarque has continued to slowly peel back the layers over the course of the past few months. Featuring plenty of elements from Returnal, Saros builds upon that foundation with new abilities to help Arjun deal with the enemies and numerous projectiles filling the screen. Alongside a familiar dash mechanic and weapons, players have access to the Soltari Shield, an energy bubble of sorts that protects from enemy projectiles while also using the absorbed energy to charge Arjun’s weapon.
