Sci-Fi Game from 2018 Gets Player Count Boost on Steam

Quantic Dream’s narrative-driven sci-fi game Detroit: Become Human has seen a massive boost in player count on Steam, making it one of the platform’s most-played games years after its launch. Steam was one of the last platforms to host Detroit: Become Human, as the game first launched on PlayStation 4 in 2018, arrived on the Epic Games Store in 2019, and did not reach Valve’s storefront until 2020.

Considering Detroit: Become Human‘s sales numbers and critical achievements, it is safe to say it has been one of Quantic Dream’s most successful releases. In 2024, statistics showed that the story-rich game surpassed 10 million copies sold. Now, years after its release, Detroit: Become Human has just broken a new record, adding yet another accomplishment to its reputation.

Player Count for This Underrated 2019 Open-World Co-Op Game on Steam Is Suddenly Way Up

Fans of open-world co-op games flock to a Steam title that launched in 2019 and has remained one of the genre’s most underrated games ever since.

Detroit: Become Human Amasses Over 22,000 Concurrent Players on Steam

Released on Steam in 2020, Quantic Dream’s acclaimed title Detroit: Become Human has reached a new concurrent player count record, surpassing 22,000 users on December 21. The last time it broke this record was in October 2024, when around 21,000 concurrent players were recorded. Detroit: Become Human is widely regarded as one of the best choice-based games, featuring a rich narrative where every decision matters and can alter the ending. Because of its branching storyline, the game also offers strong replay value for players who want to explore all possible outcomes.

Detroit: Become Human’s Story Is More Relevant in 2025

At the core of Quantic Dream’s game is a philosophical question about life forms and the increasingly thin line between human intelligence and artificial intelligence. In Detroit: Become Human, players step into the roles of three androids, each with distinct personalities and struggles. They navigate a chaotic world where ethics are often unclear, and AI can make decisions that appear more humane than human choices. This conflict is easier to relate to today, as artificial intelligence has become part of everyday life and continues to raise moral and philosophical questions that Detroit: Become Human‘s narrative partially explores.

Why Detroit: Become Human Is Blowing Up on Steam in 2025

While interest in AI-related topics has grown in recent years, Detroit: Become Human is trending on Steam largely due to the 2025 Steam Winter Sale. The limited-time event has slashed the price of the award-winning game by 90%, dropping it to under $5 USD, a deal that has been hard for many Steam users to ignore. Players looking to take advantage of this offer and add Detroit: Become Human to their Steam libraries will need to act quickly, though. The 90% discount is only available until January 5, after which the game’s price will return to its standard $40.

Unprecedented Opportunity for Fans of Choice-Based Games

Thanks to the 2025 Steam Winter Sale, all Quantic Dream titles on the storefront are discounted by 90%. This gives fans of interactive thrillers a great opportunity to pick up three other titles similar to Detroit: Become Human at a very affordable price. Heavy Rain, one of the studio’s most acclaimed releases, and Beyond: Two Souls, one of David Cage’s notable projects, are both available for $2 USD. Fans interested in classic experiences can also grab one of the studio’s earliest choice-based games, Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered, for under $1 USD.

Quantic Dream’s Future Projects

Currently, the French studio has at least two major projects in development: a new Star Wars game and a recently announced free-to-play multiplayer title. While the Star Wars project, Eclipse, may incorporate some gameplay elements from Detroit: Become Human, the other project, Spellcaster Chronicles, marks a major shift in the studio’s creative direction. This free-to-play, Marvel Rivals-like game is a departure from Quantic Dream’s traditional choice-driven formula. It remains to be seen whether these upcoming titles will achieve the same success as the studio’s previous releases despite their structural differences. What is clear, however, is that the French developer has consistently captured the attention of thousands of gamers, particularly with Detroit: Become Human, which continues to break records for the studio.
