Dead by Daylight is Losing One of Its Biggest Crossovers Soon

Dead by Daylight is Losing One of Its Biggest Crossovers Soon

With the coming of the New Year, plenty of video games are introducing brand-new content, but others, like Dead by Daylight, will see players bidding farewell to fan-favorite additions. In this case, the Halloween cosmetics will be leaving the Dead by Daylight shop on January 19, and while players will still be able to purchase and utilize character skins and related assets, the dedicated Haddonfield map and Strode Realty Key in the Bloodweb will officially be cut from the game.

Since its debut in 2016, Dead by Daylight has become a pillar of asymmetrical horror video games, with many subsequent releases, like the now-defunct Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre online multiplayer titles, taking inspiration from the gameplay of DbD. One of the biggest benefits offered by Dead by Daylight has been a number of crossovers with iconic horror franchises from across film and television. Stranger Things, Alien, and even fellow horror game Resident Evil have all seen beloved characters and villains joining the ranks of Survivors and Killers in Dead by Daylight. The first-ever IP crossover for Dead by Daylight was with Halloween in 2016, which introduced Killer Michael Myers and Survivor Laurie, and before that collaboration can celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Halloween content is getting the axe from DbD.

Dead by Daylight Announces Second Stranger Things Crossover

Dead by Daylight has given fans a little Thanksgiving treat, officially confirming that a second Stranger Things crossover Chapter is in the works.

When is the Halloween Content Leaving Dead by Daylight?

Dead by Daylight players will have until 11am ET / 8am PT on Monday, January 19 to purchase available Halloween cosmetics from the in-game shop, before these items are removed. Unfortunately, fans will also only have until January 19 to enjoy the iconic Haddonfield map, after which time the map will no longer be playable. Those who already have Halloween cosmetics or purchase them prior to the removal date will still be able to continue using these items after January 19, though some in-game descriptions of characters and other content may be altered. The Halloween content is available at a 50% discount now until its removal, making it a worthwhile pick-up for anyone interested in playing as Michale Myers or Laurie. While many are sad to see the Halloween content leaving Dead by Daylight, there is still hope that the hit DLC could one day make a return.

Longtime Dead by Daylight fans may recall when the original Stranger Things content was removed from the game, only for it to make a triumphant return two years later following heavy demand from the game’s community. Similar to Halloween, Stranger Things has ranked among the most popular crossover content in Dead by Daylight, so it came as no surprise that the hit sci-fi series eventually found its way back into The Fog, even if it took audiences begging Netflix and Behaviour Interactive to bring it back. One major difference with the Halloween content, though, is that Michael Myers is already gearing up for his own standalone asymmetrical online multiplayer horror game, which may in fact be the reason for his leaving Dead by Daylight.

A brand-new Halloween multiplayer survival game is set to debut sometime in 2026 and has been confirmed to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Presently titled Halloween: The Game, players can expect an asymmetrical stealth horror experience where one user stalks the neighborhoods of Haddonfield as Michael Myers while others play as a team of residents trying to protect one another and alert the authorities before falling to Myers’ knife. With Halloween preparing to debut its own online survival horror game, it remains to be seen if there is any chance for the horror franchise to return to Dead by Daylight after January 19. If Stranger Things is any indication, though, Halloween fans might still have hope to one day see Haddonfield resurrected in The Fog.
