Xbox Developer Direct Confirmed for January 22, Will Feature Fable and Pokemon Developer Game Freak

Microsoft has officially confirmed that the Xbox Developer Direct will be taking place on January 22, 2026. Head of Microsoft Studios Matt Booty first confirmed the Xbox Developer Direct in December 2025, and now its air date and three of its reveals are officially locked in.

Beginning in January 2023, the Xbox Developer Direct has become a new staple of the gaming industry, kicking off the year by showcasing a handful of Xbox games that are usually planned to release in the following 12 months. While the three prior Xbox Developer Directs have primarily focused on first-party titles like Forza Motorsport, Avowed, and Doom: The Dark Ages, they’ve also showcased third-party projects that are partnering with Xbox in some way, such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Ninja Gaiden 4.

  • Airing January 22 at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm GMT

Officially set to air on January 22 at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm GMT, the 2026 Xbox Developer Direct will be available to watch live via Xbox’s YouTube channel. Along with confirmation of an air date, Xbox announced three projects that will be shown during the event, with two of them coming from Playground Games. Both Fable and Forza Horizon 6 will be shown at the 2026 Xbox Developer Direct, with Fable getting its “first extended look” and Forza Horizon 6 revealing its debut look at gameplay and “new features.”

The third game confirmed to appear during the 2026 Xbox Developer Direct is Beast of Reincarnation, a game first announced during the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase. Beast of Reincarnation is an action-RPG being developed by Pokemon studio Game Freak. During the Developer Direct, Game Freak is set to reveal never-before-seen details of Beast of Reincarnation‘s protagonist Emma, who will have access to “innovative plant manipulation actions.”

While only the three projects have been officially confirmed to appear during the Xbox Developer Direct, more secrets could be in store if recent industry rumblings are to be believed. All three prior Developer Directs contained a total of five game appearances, and this year, Xbox has more to show than ever before. Along with Forza Horizon 6 and Fable, both Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day are also slated to arrive in 2026, meaning that they have a good chance of showing up during the Developer Direct in at least some capacity. While that’s purely speculation at this point, Windows Central’s Jez Corden did recently share his expectations for Xbox in 2026, and said that while he doesn’t know what will appear during the Developer Direct, it’s “highly likely” the four pillar Xbox franchises will appear, those being Halo, Fable, Gears of War, and Forza.

These four pillar franchises are also just scratching the surface of what Xbox currently has cooking across all of its first-party studios. In terms of officially confirmed games, there’s Marvel’s Blade, The Elder Scrolls 6, State of Decay 3, and Clockwork Revolution in development at the minute. There have also been rumors surfacing in the last few days that Bethesda might have Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters/remakes in the works.

Though extended looks at Fable, Forza Horizon 6, and Beast of Reincarnation would still make for an exciting showcase, there’s plenty that Xbox could draw from to make its 2026 Xbox Developer Direct truly one for the ages. The Xbox Developer Direct also has a history of including a shadow-drop in its line-up, with Hi-Fi Rush dropping day-and-date in January 2023 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black surprise launching at the end of last year’s Developer Direct. Of course, there’s no guarantee that will happen again this year, but Xbox hasn’t officially said otherwise just yet.
