Nintendo Reveals New Switch 2 Joy-Con Colors

Nintendo Reveals New Switch 2 Joy-Con Colors

A new pair of green and purple Joy-Cons have just been announced for the Nintendo Switch 2. These new controllers mark the first official Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons to release following the handheld hybrid’s launch last year.

The original and OLED models of the Nintendo Switch received a plethora of alternate Joy-Con variations in their lifetime, ranging from simple color swaps to full-blown makeovers that featured exclusive designs. While new official Joy-Cons would launch for the original Switch regularly, some of the most intricate controllers were released alongside major first-party Nintendo games like Pokemon, Mario, and The Legend of Zelda. These collector-focused Joy-Cons would often be made to look like something from the game’s world, such as Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee‘s special edition Joy-Cons, which matched the colors of the titular creatures, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom‘s OLED Joy-Cons which featured Zonai-inspired patterns.

Nintendo Annouces New Purple and Green Switch 2 Joy-Cons

  • Available February 12 for $99.99

Officially called the “Light Purple” and “Light Green” Joy-Cons, this new pair of colorful Nintendo Switch 2 controllers will be available on February 12, 2026. Eager fans can already pre-purchase these new Joy-Cons via the official Nintendo Store, where they retail for $99.99, the same price as a new pair of standard blue and red Joy-Con 2s. These new purple and green Joy-Cons come with the same black wrist-straps included with the original Switch 2 Joy-Cons.

Much like the standard Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons, and unlike the original Switch’s alternate controllers, the primary color on both of the new Switch 2 Joy-Cons will still be matte black. The only parts of the controller that feature a different color are the base of the thumbstick and the connective bar that attaches each Joy-Con to the Nintendo Switch 2. Aside from these slight color adjustments, these new Joy-Con 2s are identical to those bundled in with the Switch 2, with both pairs featuring HD Rumble, motion controls, mouse functionality, and the C Button used to access the Nintendo Switch 2’s GameChat feature.

The Nintendo Switch 2’s new purple and green Joy-Cons have received a bit of a mixed reaction from fans in the few hours following their announcement. While some fans are just happy to see new Joy-Cons finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 after seven months of waiting, others have expressed their disappointment with the lack of substantial change from the Switch 2’s included Joy-Cons. X user @Lurker89742 summarized this general sentiment in the replies to Nintendo’s official announcement, saying “these are not purple and light green. These are black with a few tiny details with purple or green.”

As Nintendo’s announcement states, these new Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons will hit store shelves on the same day as Mario Tennis Fever, though the controllers don’t seem to be directly tied to the sports game as the purple and green color scheme doesn’t really match any of the characters included in Mario Tennis Fever‘s line-up, nor do they feature any special logos or designs inspired by the game.

But while these new Joy-Cons likely aren’t a direct tie-in to Mario Tennis Fever, their reveal did come soon after a deep-dive of the new Mario sports game hit Nintendo’s YouTube. There’s a lot of information packed into the five-minute gameplay breakdown, but some of the most important details are that Mario Tennis Fever will include 38 characters at launch, it will include optional motion controls, and will feature special ‘Fever Rackets’ that significantly alter the opponent’s side of the court. Mario Tennis Fever will also support 1–4 players locally, which gives Switch 2 users the perfect excuse to pick up these new green and purple Joy-Cons.
