A recent thread on Reddit by user Ex-Zero raised the issue of no black dye in Diablo 4, pointing out that “some of the store outfits look really cool but the color schemes turn me off big time.” Players in the thread were utterly baffled by the omission, with some suggesting that it should be there after 11 Diablo 4 seasons. In the game, there are some forms of grey and brown dye presets, but it’s just not the same as true black and pure white options, which would be a game-changer for many players who just want a simple look.

Many players in the thread pointed out the glaring problems with the dye system overall, with one suggesting it’s “simply terrible and needs an overhaul.” Another raised the issue that weapons and shields can’t be dyed, leading to mismatched weapons and outfits that never look right. Ultimately, customization is just a form of self-expression for players, so it’s unfortunate that they’re left in a situation where they can’t quite do what they want, especially when it’s such an important part of the game for many.

As to why black dye hasn’t been added to Diablo 4 yet, gamers in the thread had their theories. Some speculated that the dye system was intentionally bad, as improving it could “keep some people away from shop purchases.” One gamer even floated the possibility of paid dyes in the future, to which another replied, “delete this NOW.” However, arguably the best way to improve the dye system came from one fan who said the game should include new dye pigments for every new Diablo 4 season. Perhaps Blizzard will address the lack of black dye in Diablo 4‘s upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion, which is set to launch on April 28. Prior to that, Blizzard will also launch Season 12 in March. The new expansion is set to be the biggest content drop since 2024’s Vessel of Hatred DLC, with two new classes, including the Paladin, which is already available for players who pre-order. The second class remains a mystery, and will be revealed in the coming months prior to the expansion’s release.
