Shroud Issues Blunt Statement on Hytale

Shroud Issues Blunt Statement on Hytale

Former professional Valorant and Counter-Strike player turned Twitch streamer, Shroud, has made a harsh statement regarding the early access launch of Hytale. The Minecraft-like sandbox game was finally released in early access this month after years of development troubles, but Shroud believes that there’s no way Hytale is in a playable state right now and has told his fans that he won’t be playing the title for at least another 2 years.

Development on Hytale first began all the way back in 2015, but an official reveal didn’t arrive until 2018 with a massive trailer that racked up more than 60 million views and got the whole internet talking. Work at Hypixel Studios then continued for many years, with the studio even being acquired by League of Legends developer and publisher Riot Games in 2020. However, things eventually went south last year when Riot suddenly canceled Hytale and ended development. According to the studio, the cancellation was due to the sheer scope and scale of the game, with the publisher seemingly concerned that it would never be finished.

Shroud Won’t Play Hytale for 2 Years

As many fans will likely be well aware, Hytale was eventually saved late last year when the original founder of Hypixel Studios successfully re-acquired the rights for the game from Riot Games. It was then launched in early access earlier this month, but not everyone seems to be on board with the highly anticipated title. During a recent live stream (and clipped by a user on Twitter), content creator and former esports star Shroud quickly shut down fans asking if he intends to play Hytale. “In like two years, maybe,” he said in response to a viewer. “I think it’s got a cool foundation, but there’s no way that game is in a playable state right now.”

While the game is very much in a playable state, it is in early access, and Hypixel Studios does have a very clear disclaimer on its website whenever somebody attempts to purchase early access to Hytale. “This is an early access to Hytale; the game is still in active development. Expect bugs and changes as we work towards full release,” a message from Hypixel reads. Players have already discovered plenty of bugs and issues with the game, but Hypixel has already released numerous new hotfixes and patches since the game’s launch, which were aimed at improving the game’s stability and fixing prominent bugs.

As of writing, Hytale is currently only available on PC and is not purchasable via Steam or the Epic Games Store. The good news, however, is that Hypixel does intend to bring Hytale to consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. There’s no word on a release date as of yet, as the studio says it requires a lot of work on backend systems to make a console release a reality. “It’s not something we want to invest resources into right now,” Hypixel says, but does confirm that a console release is being planned for a later stage.

After years of waiting, Hytale is finally in the hands of players, and it seems like Hypixel has big plans for the future of the game. Thanks to the overwhelming support from players during its early access launch, Hypixel announced that it has received enough funding to support Hytale for the next two years. During this time, fans can likely expect further updates, improvements, and more as Hypixel continues to work towards getting the game to its 1.0 release.
