Those who have been waiting for a bold new Fall Guys experience to reignite their love for the bean-focused title are in luck — sort of. While there is indeed a new Fall Guys mini-game called Crown Jam releasing on January 23, it’s exclusive to Fortnite, not Mediatonic’s game.
While this may seem strange to those out of the loop, it does make some sense. When Epic Games purchased Mediatonic back in 2021, gamers expected a fair bit of Fall Guys content in the former’s hugely successful battle royale game. And though said content took its time to arrive, it began being added with Chapter 5: Season 3. On August 6, 2024, “Where We Fallin?” was introduced, which was a fun nod to the oft-spoken phrase “Where we landing?” uttered at the start of battle royale matches. This content was an obstacle course that could be visited within the Fall Guys map, which players could enter to unlock a selection of loot for their current session (quality was based on course completion time) and permanent rewards like a pink plushie back bling.
Fortnite Creative players were given access to a wide range of assets from Mediatonic’s game, allowing them to create their own bean-filled obstacle courses.
Alongside the obstacle course that was present back in 2024, Mediatonic created six official Creative islands, which are as follows:
- Pegwin Pickup: A spin on the Pegwin-collection mini-games from Fall Guys
- Bean Circuit: Similar to Speed Circuit, where players race around an arena
- Hex-A-Gone Unlimited: A spin on the game of the same name where the goal is to cover as many tiles as possible for points
- Blunderdome Blast: An original concept where teams of players launch beans from cannons to break blocks
- Falling Up: An obstacle course where the goal is to climb to the top of the map
- Tumble Towers: Another obstacle course where players try to beat their best time
While these six courses and the temporary obstacle course on Fortnite’s battle royale island were certainly cool, it always seemed like they were the beginning of something larger. After all, Epic Games went out of its way to create bean versions of nearly all the base Fortnite skins (collab skins show up as default beans), allowing players to make use of a hefty portion of their lockers in the Fall Guys content. While this extra effort made sense with the LEGO Fortnite mini-figures, as that’s a huge experience, it always felt as if Fortnite was preparing to do more with Fall Guys. And now, after over a year of waiting, it’s clear that it is.
Fortnite’s New Fall Guys LTM Explained
Much like some of the Fall Guys-themed Fortnite Creative content paid homage to existing mini-games like Hex-A-Gone, the new LTM looks like a more advanced combination of Fall Ball and Basketfall. For those who have forgotten what these modes were like, they were essentially the Fall Guys spin on Rocket League, with players escorting balls to the opposing team’s net or zome. Crown Jam leans into the basketball theme, with players needing to cross the map and either shoot or dunk the ball into the opposition’s net. There will be some power-ups to make this task more interesting, including jump pads and confetti bombs, while a tackle mechanic allows players to knock down their opponents in each competitive 3v3 match.
Crown Jam certainly looks fun, but based on the YouTube comments and social media responses, there are two significant issues with the mode. First, players are disappointed that it’s only set to be playable for a limited time, as Crown Jam leaves Fortnite on February 9. Though a positive reception and high player count could see the mode being made permanent, like what happened with Blitz Royale, there’s no guarantee. As for the second bit of backlash, players who enjoy Fall Guys but don’t play Fortnite are frustrated that the mode is exclusive to the latter, as the standalone Fall Guys game could desperately use a burst of new playable content.
The Fortnite skins above were shared on social media and will seemingly be tied to the new Fall Guys LTM. The blue plushie is confirmed to be a reward tied to the mode.
Perhaps Fall Guys content will be added more consistently to Fortnite going forward, explaining why this mode is being removed so quickly after being added. Regardless of the reasoning, it’s clear that Fortnite fans are excited for the mode and want it to stick around, just as it’s clear that the Fall Guys community doesn’t want new bean-filled mini-games restricted to Fortnite.
