New Co-Op Steam Game Has Serious Diablo Vibes

New Co-Op Steam Game Has Serious Diablo Vibes

Fans of dark fantasy games have another new co-op game to look forward to, as Moon Beast Productions has officially unveiled its upcoming OARPG, Darkhaven. Moon Beast Productions is composed of former Diablo and Diablo 2 developers, who have taken inspiration from their previous experience with the Diablo franchise, along with other genre hits including Torchlight, Hellgate London, and Nox, and are preparing to present a new realm of procedurally generated open-world action with Darkhaven. Presently slated to launch for PC via Steam, Darkhaven will invite players into a world “unlike any other” through solo or multiplayer co-op gameplay.

The modern-day popularity of dark fantasy action games is often attributed to the Dark Souls franchise, with Elden Ring being the latest soulslike RPG to blend Gothic settings and atmospheric storytelling in a way that captivates audiences from across multiple genres. Longtime ARPGS fans, however, largely attribute the Diablo series with sparking decades of gaming interest in quests filled with epic fights, a hint of mysticism, and otherworldly creatures. While some of the original creators of the first two Diablo games have since moved on to new endeavors, the team at Moon Beast Productions is going back to its dark fantasy roots with Darkhaven.

Darkhaven Gameplay Trailer Showcases Dynamic Environments and Combat Mayhem

Set within the aftermath of a civilization’s complete collapse, Darkhaven sees players taking on the role of a survivor venturing beyond their meager stronghold of a hut to hunt the remnants of evil that have reclaimed the ruins of a long-dead empire and become the true hero of the wild lands of the world. Featuring diverse biomes, handcrafted points of interest, and deformable terrain, Darkhaven sets itself apart from other isometric action role-playing games by allowing players to not only explore vast, living realms but completely reshape them. Players will be able to dig into the earth to harvest resources, rebuild fallen fortresses, drain lakes to discover sunken treasures, and even raise the earth to create islands. The dynamic design of Darkhaven introduces a new array of possibilities in combat, as well, which itself goes far beyond simple stat-checks.

Darkhaven‘s combat system is said to reward “skill and positioning” by offering “truly open movement.” Players are able to jump, climb, swim, and dash, making vertical movement just as crucial as tactical dodging. Each of these abilities, along with those included in arcane skill trees and unlocked through items of legendary power, grant players more freedom in choosing how best to overcome each battle. Additionally, the “heartbeat” of Darkhaven is its “build-defining itemization.” Players can find gear that feels powerful for a given level, while rare items will remain viable “far beyond their expected power band.” Trading and finely tuned drop rates will make layering and choices unique for each player. Whether playing solo, co-op, or PvP, Darkhaven supports persistent online worlds and diverse customization that hold the potential to rival those of massively multiplayer online games.

In addition to the official game mechanics and features, Darkhaven also promises “to be fully moddable from the ground up” and will feature an in-client editor that will allow players to create their own items, monsters, classes, and even quests. Darkhaven players will be able to design single set-pieces or entirely new rule sets, including while playing with others, potentially making it one of the most mod-friendly online games currently in development. Despite no expected release window at the time of writing, players can wishlist Darkhaven on Steam and check out the Kickstarter campaign, which has already achieved full funding support. Interested players can follow along for any future updates on Darkhaven and other dark fantasy RPGs coming in 2026 and beyond.
