Epic Games Store Gets 2 Surprise Free Games for February 2026

Indie games SunBlockers and NightReaper2 are currently free to claim on the Epic Games Store. These limited-time offers are not part of the platform’s regular weekly giveaways, but were created using new developer tools that may yield even more surprise freebies on the Epic Games Store in the near future.

While Epic obviously allows free-to-play titles on its marketplace, it has so far limited developers to discounting their paid games by no more than 95%. This made Epic’s weekly freebies the only limited-time 100% discounts that have been available on the platform with any consistency. By contrast, random game giveaways are a much more common occurrence on Steam because even though Valve also heavily restricts developers’ absolute discount privileges, it provides them with other mechanisms for giving normally paid products, including “Free to Keep” promotions. After seven years, this discrepancy between the two storefronts has been addressed with a January 29 EGS toolkit update that—among other changes—finally enabled developers to unilaterally offer limited-time 100% discounts on their otherwise paid Epic Games Store products.

Epic Games Store: A Comprehensive List Of Every Free Game It’s Had To Date

Here’s a list of all the games that have been made free on the Epic Games Store. You have until February 5 to get the current free game.

Within 48 hours of the new discount options going live, the first third-party freebies appeared on the Epic Games Store. Both were launched on February 1 by indie developer DarkGoose4, who opted to give away SunBlockers and NightReaper2, two titles that they released in December 2025. The 100% discount on SunBlockers runs until February 27, while the NightReaper2 giveaway is available for one day longer, covering the entire month. Based on the two games’ full retail prices, the total value of this dual-giveaway amounts to $5.98. Separately, the Epic Games Store is still offering Definitely Not Fried Chicken as its latest weekly freebie, available until next Thursday, February 5.

Current and Upcoming Free Games on Epic Games Store

In terms of what’s actually on offer here, NightReaper2 is a low-budget dark fantasy action game that casts players as the Grim Reaper himself, tasked with harvesting souls and crushing anyone who stands in his way. Defeating enemies allows this charming protagonist to collect their souls, which can then be used to unlock new abilities. This familiar gameplay loop is set against a grim city backdrop and infused with some elements of cosmic horror. NightReaper2‘s Steam page includes an AI content disclosure, but only as it pertains to some of its “store capsule, library, and marketing artwork.” The game itself is understood not to incorporate AI-generated art or assets.

Meanwhile, SunBlockers is a survival game framed as a whimsical adventure with rapid “clicker” combat and resource-driven progression. It takes place on an icy island where the sun has been trapped, forcing players to stay near light sources to survive the cold while simultaneously fending off waves upon waves of decidedly adorable zombies. Like NightReaper2, SunBlockers incentivizes combat with resources that can be used to unlock more powerful abilities, thus making combat easier.

More Surprise EGS Giveaways Are Likely on the Horizon

DarkGoose4’s giveaway is likely just the beginning of things to come now that developers can independently make premium titles temporarily free on the Epic Games Store. For comparison, the historically more giveaway-permissive Steam has seen nine paid indie games go temporarily free over the last 30 days. While that’s roughly as many as EGS has received since this time in Janury, the Steam freebies were offered through no involvement from Valve. In other words, these newly relaxed guidelines have the potential to complement Epic’s weekly giveaways with a more varied assortment of discounts on minor releases.

The Epic Games Store’s new discount campaigns come with one key limitation: publishers who make a product free and then revert it to a paid model must keep that price for at least 30 days before applying another discount. The rule appears aimed at curbing shovelware and preventing abuse of the discount for the purpose of manipulating algorithms into repeatedly resurfacing perpetually discounted games on trending store pages.
