Fable Fans Want Demon Doors to Return in the Reboot

Fable Fans Want Demon Doors to Return in the Reboot

Fable fans are worried that Demon Doors might not return in the upcoming reboot. Demon Doors featured in all three previous mainline Fable games, but Playground Games hasn’t yet confirmed whether they’re coming back in the reboot. While nothing is set in stone at this point, fans are discussing whether they’d like to see them appear once again.

The long-awaited Fable reboot finally resurfaced at the recent Xbox Developer Direct. This was a major glimpse into what players can expect to see from Playground Games’ revival of the series, which was previously developed by Lionhead Studios. With Playground Games previously working on the Forza Horizon series, Fable is a big change of pace for the studio, but reception to the footage seen so far has been largely positive. On the surface, it seems to have the same charm that elevated the original Fable trilogy above other RPGs of their era. As well as the new gameplay information, the Xbox Developer Direct showcase also confirmed that Fable is coming to PlayStation 5 on day one, another huge Xbox console-exclusive franchise making the jump to Sony’s platform.

Fable Has Brought Its Biggest Controversy to Rest, But It Shouldn’t Have Been an Issue in the First Place

Playground Games’ long-awaited Fable reboot just squashed one of the most enduring, absurd, frivolous gaming controversies of the last few years.

Will There Be Demon Doors in the Fable Reboot?

A Reddit thread started by user gex109 pointed out that Fable‘s iconic Demon Doors are yet to make an appearance in the promotional material for the reboot, indicating that they might not be present in the game. “I hope they keep them in the new Fable,” gex109 said. One user claimed it would be “outrageous” if they don’t appear, saying that they assume they haven’t bothered to show the Demon Doors “because they will so obviously be in the game.” The same user described Demon Doors as being “so quintessentially and uniquely Fable that they have to appear,” and that was the general sentiment throughout the thread.

So far, it does seem as though Playground Games understands what makes Fable so special, but the reboot is still planning to differentiate itself from its predecessors in some big ways. For example, it was recently revealed that Fable‘s morality-based character appearances will not be featured in the reboot, nor will the co-op gameplay or canine companion. A mainline Fable game without these features would previously be pretty unthinkable, but it’s a sign that the developer isn’t afraid to take risks to make what it believes is a better game with the reboot. With this in mind, it’s certainly possible that Demon Doors may not feature in the reboot. Of course, nothing is confirmed at this point, and Playground Games may just be keeping them a secret for the full release. But it’s important not to assume one way or the other, given the game’s track record so far.

The Fable reboot has now locked in a Fall 2026 release window on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, although no exact date has been given at this point in time. A Switch 2 version of Fable is reportedly under consideration, too, which would mark the first time the series has appeared on a Nintendo platform. Gamers can expect the marketing for the game to ramp up in the coming months, as the Fall 2026 release window approaches. By the time the game is released, it will have been almost 16 years since the last mainline title in the series, and hopefully, the wait will have been worth it.
