Steam is Finally Getting One of the Most Underrated Action-RPGS of Last Year

Steam users will soon have a new dark fantasy action RPG to sink their time into, as Blades of Fire has been confirmed to arrive on Valve’s PC gaming storefront in the spring. As one of the most underrated games of 2025, Blades of Fire will launch on Steam after a year of exclusivity on other platforms, including the Epic Games Store.

Blades of Fire is an action title set in a world where metal weapons have been cursed to stone. The game’s main protagonist is a warrior named Aran de Lira, who forges his own steel weapons using a sacred blacksmithing hammer. Aran is accompanied by a young scholar named Adso de Zelk, who shares his knowledge of the world and documents Aran’s journey. Blades of Fire is published by 505 Games and developed by MercurySteam. Some of MercurySteam’s past work includes Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Spacelords, and Metroid Dread. Considered one of the best Metroidvanias of the decade so far, Metroid Dread was co-developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo.

Brand-New Critically-Acclaimed Roguelike Game is Absolutely Blowing Up on Steam

The latest roguelike to hit Steam reaches critical acclaim just hours after its highly-anticipated launch on Valve’s PC gaming storefront.

Blades of Fire is Finally Coming to Steam This Spring

After Blades of Fire released to favorable reviews, more players will soon be able to give one of 2025’s best action titles a try. Blades of Fire launches on Steam on Thursday, May 14, nearly one year after its launch on Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Along with the Steam port, Blades of Fire will also launch a Version 2.0 update on all supported platforms. Blades of Fire Version 2.0 will include several new features for players to experience. A New Game Plus mode and a new Titanium Challenge Level will be available for players to test their skills. Additionally, Blades of Fire Version 2.0 will have a Photo Mode and a Boss Revival Mode where Aran can rematch some of the game’s toughest foes for additional rewards. Some of these rewards include giving Adso the ability to cast spells on Aran’s weapons for extra potency and effects.

Another quality-of-life change coming in Blades of Fire Version 2.0 is Element Transmutation, which allows players to change different material types. Although the details about this new feature are currently unclear, it may allow newer Blades of Fire players to forge some early-game weapons that can give them an edge in some fights. Given that there are no weapon drops or loot tables in Blades of Fire, players must carefully consider what weapon they want to forge for the challenges at hand. Full remapping of keyboard and mouse controls and Steam Deck support will also arrive with Blades of Fire‘s 2.0 update.

Steam Users Can Try Out Blades of Fire Now

Players can now try a free demo of Blades of Fire on Steam to see if their PC can run the game. The demo requires approximately 30 GB of storage space. However, the recommended specifications for playing Blades of Fire are steep. Along with utilizing an 8-core CPU like the Ryzen 7 5800X, players are also recommended to have a mid-range graphics card, such as Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super or the AMD Radeon RX 6800XT. Additionally, PCs must have at least 54 GB of available storage space. Given the graphical power of Blades of Fire, installing the game on a solid-state drive (SSD) is also recommended. However, Blades of Fire Version 2.0 will also include support for Nvidia DLSS 4 upscaling, which should give some players a performance boost when enabled.

Given how Blades of Fire‘s combat system rewards patience and endurance over relentless hacking, players can use the demo as a way to try out the game ahead of its May 14 Steam launch. It remains to be seen how strong a reception Blades of Fire will earn with Steam users upon its spring arrival.
