After clawing its way up the Steam charts, it should come as little surprise that Mewgenics, the feline-focused turn-based tactical roguelike, has crossed the one million sales mark and apparently made a colossal amount of cash.
Mewgenics co-developer Tyler Glaiel confirmed on social media that the title has sold over a million copies on Steam. Additionally, analyst Rhys Elliott of games market data firm Alinea Analytics wrote on X that Mewgenics is estimated to have generated close to a staggering $25 million in gross revenue.

According to Elliot, Mewgenics has the second-highest revenue of any 2026 release on Steam so far, only below Nioh 3, which retails for $70. By comparison, Mewgenics only costs $30, but Elliot speculates that the game’s continuing momentum will take it to the top spot on Steam soon.
Mewgenics launched on February 10, beating the likes of Overwatch, Battlefield 6, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in concurrent players on its first day. Currently, Mewgenics is only available on Steam, but co-developer Edmund McMillen has promised that the game will eventually be released on consoles and that DLC is in the works.
Glaiel previously said that the game already made back its development budget in only three hours. It also quickly overtook McMillen’s own The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth in peak concurrent player numbers. Elliot reports that 70% of Mewgenics players own The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, a major show of community and fan loyalty to McMillen and his work.
It’s a massive success story for a game that almost didn’t reach the finish line, being announced in 2012, canceled in 2016, and revived in 2018, eight years before its eventual release.
