One half of Mewgenics‘ development team, Tyler Glaiel, has revealed an approximate window for when players can expect the first DLC to arrive in the roguelike game. Glaiel is unable to commit to an exact date for Mewgenics‘ new content, as it’s still quite far away at this point.
After a nearly 14-year development cycle that began in 2012 following Edmund McMillen’s work on Super Meat Boy, Mewgenics was finally released on February 10, 2026. Unlike many games that spent years in development hell, Mewgenics was met with rave reviews, earning a Top Critic Average of 89 on review aggregator site OpenCritic, as well as “Very Positive” reviews on Steam. Early player counts for the game were massive, too, with an all-time concurrent Steam peak of over 115,000. The roguelike turn-based strategy game has exceeded expectations so far, and its development duo aren’t resting on their laurels.

Gamers Shouldn’t Expect Mewgenics DLC Any Time Soon
Following the early success of Mewgenics, developers Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel are already thinking about the game’s future. In a thread on X, Glaiel offered some details about upcoming DLC. “Edmund and I have been discussing and mapping out what we want to do for DLC 1 and I’ve got to say I’m getting a little bit excited about it,” Glaiel said, before responding further to fan questions about a potential release window. “DLC 1 is supposed to be a ‘small’ one so ideally, like, end of next year maybe. But who knows.” That is a fairly lengthy wait for the first Mewgenics DLC, but Glaiel doesn’t want to rush just because the game is extremely popular right now. “I probably need a couple months to just focus on bugfixes + support for the base game and deal with like, accounting nonsense and house hunting and stuff before we can really get into work on a dlc. But the planning begins now at least.”
Glaiel even teased how many DLCs Mewgenics could receive in the future, stating that there will be “at least 2.” This would not be out of the ordinary for Edmund McMillen titles – The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth received three expansions between 2015 and 2021, all of which were extremely well-received. This makes a potential late-2027 release for Mewgenics‘ first expansion seem within reason, especially given Glaiel’s comments. There is plenty of content to keep players busy in the meantime, and as a roguelike, its replayability is one of its biggest strengths. In an era where a constant stream of content is king, it’s good to see a developer willing to take the time necessary to ensure anything new is up to the standard of the base game.

Although Mewgenics isn’t getting any major expansions for a while, that’s not to say that the game won’t have any good news on the horizon. Edmund McMillen recently revealed that Mewgenics is planned for consoles, mentioning that the Nintendo Switch 2 is the frontrunner right now. He has not committed to any particular console at this point, but it would be great for more gamers to have the opportunity to try out this excellent new roguelike game.
