Hit Fantasy MMO Is Finally Coming to Steam After 7 Years and 67 Million Mobile Downloads

After more than 7 years in the wild and over 67 million downloads (75 million registered users) on mobile, the hit fantasy MMO MapleStory M is finally heading to Steam, with a release scheduled for March 18, 2026. The beloved mobile adaptation of the classic 2D MMORPG MapleStory will make its debut on Valve’s PC platform very soon, giving devoted fans and interested newcomers a fresh way to explore Maple World with PC-friendly controls and optimized features.

As part of Steam Next Fest, Nexon has also made a public demo of MapleStory M available right now on Steam. Within the limited-time preview, players can jump into the game and see how its nostalgic side-scrolling combat, auto-battle progression options, and character customization translate on PC firsthand ahead of its full launch.

Hit Fantasy MMO MapleStory M Is Coming to Steam on March 18, 2026

Originally released in 2018, MapleStory M took the charm of the classic MapleStory franchise and put it into a mobile-first experience that captured millions of players with its pixel graphics, upbeat soundtrack, and satisfying progression systems. Now, on March 18, 2026, the game will finally escape the mobile-sized box it has been in for 7 years, bringing its signature 2D adventure to Steam with full PC optimization and offline progression support—meaning players can enjoy it both actively and passively.

MapleStory M is an online MMORPG where players create and customize their own characters, select from dozens of job classes like Warrior, Magician, Thief, Archer, and more, and explore a version of Maple World that is filled with monsters, quests, and towns like Henesys and Kerning City.

The game essentially builds on the spirit of the original MapleStory—a classic PC MMO that first launched in 2003—but prior to its upcoming Steam release, it was designed for mobile-friendly play with features like auto-battle and relaxed progression systems that make it accessible for casual and more dedicated players alike. Within the game, players can embark on quests, team up with others in guilds, participate in cooperative boss raids, and take part in events that regularly add seasonal content and community challenges.

MapleStory M progress carries over to Steam as long as players log in with the same Nexon account, meaning existing characters, levels, and items transfer between mobile and PC.

What’s New and What to Expect From the MapleStory M Steam Launch

The upcoming Steam release for MapleStory M brings all of that familiar MMO action to desktop players, with fully optimized PC controls and resolutions. While the mobile game has been playable on PC via its own launcher for some time, launching on Steam not only allows it to reach a wider audience, but it grants broader accessibility and convenience for players who prefer gaming on larger displays or through Steam’s community ecosystem.

The Steam version of MapleStory M is still free-to play, with optional in-game purchases, and it offers everything featured in the mobile version. It’s also possible to wishlist the game now on Steam to prepare for launch day. Nexon has even tied wishlist milestones to community rewards and special in-game login bonuses that unlock if certain goals are met before March 18. Until then, however, players can still get a taste of the game via its playable Steam demo, if not just to see if it’s something they’ll want to invest in come launch.

MapleStory M launches on Steam on March 18, 2026.
