The Unwritten Rules of Playing a Warlock in Diablo 2: Resurrected Explained

The new Warlock class in Diablo 2: Resurrected introduces a never-before-seen way to experience the world of Sanctuary in this classic game. Even veteran Diablo 2: Resurrected players may have a hard time adapting to the new gameplay quirks associated with the first new Diablo 2 class in 25 years. As such, there are a few unwritten rules that the community agrees are necessary to keep in mind when playing as a Warlock in Diablo 2: Resurrected.

When played correctly, the Warlock can be one of the most powerful classes in Diablo 2: Resurrected, combining the use of demon minions, Magic, and Physical skills to barrage enemies with a chaotic onslaught. Unique to the Warlock class is the ability to capture and tame nearly any demon in the game, gaining them as an ally and expanding their demon army. Even without demon minions, the Warlock can clear the screen of enemies with powerful Fire skills or enchanted weapons, making it a versatile option for all D2R players as long as they adhere to these unwritten rules.

Diablo 2: Resurrected’s Hottest Warlock Build is Rated E for Everyone

Both newcomers and veterans can take full advantage of one of Diablo 2: Resurrected’s most popular Warlock builds with screen-clearing potential.

Diablo 2: Resurrected Warlocks Will Want to Keep These Unwritten Rules in Mind

Invest in Demon Summons, Regardless of Build

The Warlock has three different skill trees for players to invest in: Chaos, Eldritch, and Demon, and while each one can be the basis for a solid build, all Diablo 2 Warlock builds will want to put at least the bare minimum skill points into the Demon tree. Demon summons are incredibly powerful in Diablo 2: Resurrected, even if they are not the primary focus of the build. Summon Goatman can be useful in the early game to take some of the heat off of the player while they’re still leveling, but being able to Consume the summoned Goatman in the late game is essential since it gives increased Damage for basically free. This makes demon summoning and consuming crucial even for more physically oriented Warlock builds.

Two-Handed Weapons are the Warlock’s Best Friend

Another unique feature of the Warlock is its inherent passive ability to levitate its weapon, allowing the class to wield two-handed weapons with one hand. This means players can use two-handed weapons like axes, swords, and polearms while still having a slot free for a shield or grimoire, which is a new off-hand weapon exclusive to the Warlock. With skill points invested in Levitation Mastery, there’s really no reason for the Warlock not to use a two-handed weapon and reap the rewards of the class’s weapon-enchanting skills like Echoing Strike and Mirrored Blades.

Diablo 2: Resurrected Warlocks will still need to have enough Strength to wield two-handed weapons, so players may want to invest in boosting that stat early on.

Bind Hephasto the Armorer as Soon as Possible

Diablo 2 Hephasto The Armorer Peering Down From The Top Of The Steps

Warlock players should invest the minimum skill points required to unlock Bind Demon at level 31 so that they can tame nearly any demon in the game. In particular, Hephasto the Armorer is almost always the ideal demon to bind thanks to the universally useful buffs he provides. Although players won’t be able to get Hephasto until they reach Diablo 2: Resurrected Act 4 and access the Hellforge, taming this demon grants the Warlock the Aura he spawns with, meaning players can get something like Fanaticism Aura to increase their Damage, Attack Speed, and Attack Rating.

Avoid Going All-In on Magic or Physical Skills

Diablo 2: Resurrected‘s Warlock has the luxury of excelling in both Magic and Physical skills, making it a versatile class for players of all skill levels. However, it’s in the Warlock’s best interest to avoid going all in on just one of these two damage types, since players could run into trouble against Diablo 2 enemies that resist Fire or Magic damage. As such, most Diablo 2: Resurrected Warlock builds include investments in Physical skills like Mirrored Blades, alongside a skill like Hex: Bane to enchant it and add Magic damage as well.
