New Pokemon Release is a Throwback to Red and Blue and the Original Game Boy

Pokemon fans can now enjoy the 45 classic music tracks from the original Pokemon Red and Blue games via a stylish Game Boy-shaped music player. This exciting announcement kicked off the Pokemon Day broadcast on February 27, 2026, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise. The broadcast included many other exciting announcements, including a first look at the long-awaited Generation 10 games.

The Pokemon franchise has already been celebrating its milestone anniversary with some nostalgic physical media, such as a grayscale plush of “Fat Pikachu” and camping gear with designs inspired by various Starter Pokemon. The piece of merchandise revealed during the 30th anniversary broadcast, however, might just be the most nostalgic of all. It hearkens back not just to the original Pokemon games, but the beloved handheld hardware on which players first experienced them.

Pokemon Fans Can Get Their Hands On A Game Boy-Shaped Music Player

The Pokemon Game Music Collection, also known as the Game Boy Jukebox, is designed to look and feel exactly like a Game Boy handheld device. It has the same blocky gray design, button positioning, and small screen with a black and white pixelated display. But this particular Game Boy is not for playing games. It’s for playing music, specifically 45 iconic tracks from Pokemon Red and Blue.

45 cartridges, each designed to resemble Pokemon Red or Blue, can be inserted into the device. Each one unlocks a song from the original Pokemon games which can then be listened to. Every cartridge also features a screenshot from one of the original games, which will be displayed on the device’s screen while the song is played. In the Pokemon Day broadcast, composer Junichi Masuda revealed that the team strove to make the songs sound as much like the original Game Boy audio as possible.

The Game Music Collection, along with other Pokemon 30th anniversary merchandise, will be purchased through the official Pokemon Center Web site. Interested buyers should be advised that there may be long wait times to access the site, and products may sell out fast due to high demand. The Game Boy Juke Box is the perfect accessory for nostalgic fans who want to honor the series’ iconic music while remembering their days playing Pokemon Red and Blue on the original Game Boy. It makes the perfect accessory to enjoy while dealing with the longer-than-expected wait for the Pokemon Gen 10 games.
