Fortnite Save the World Is Finally Getting the Update Fans Have Been Asking For

Epic Games has announced that, after years of waiting, Fortnite‘s Save the World mode will finally become free-to-play. Fortnite became incredibly popular in 2017 due to the launch of its Battle Royale game mode. Given the attention that Battle Royale got, the developers made it their main focus. However, Save the World was supposed to be the primary game mode and the first thing that came to mind when players thought of “Fortnite.”

Save the World is a PvE tower defense mode; players have to put up a storm shield and defend their base from oncoming hordes of zombies. As the developers shifted their focus towards Battle Royale, Save the World was put on the back burner. This, of course, disappointed its fans, as new content for it became scarce over the years.

Fortnite Teases New POI for Chapter 7 Season 2

Fortnite is hinting at a brand-new point of interest set to arrive in the game as part of the upcoming Chapter 7 Season 2 update.

Fortnite Save the World Will Soon Be Free and Available on Switch 2

Over the past few days, it became clear that Epic Games was teasing something big for Save the World, as official Fortnite social media accounts changed their profile icon to the original Save the World logo and shorts with its OST. Finally, it was confirmed that Save the World will be free-to-play starting April 16. And, as of this date, it will also be accessible on Switch 2. This means that players will be able to access Save the World for free on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Switch 2 – it will remain unavailable on the original Switch and mobile devices.

When Does Fortnite Save the World Become Free-to-Play?

To celebrate the announcement and get fans excited to play Save the World, Epic Games is hosting a community goal event. Players have to visit the official Save the World website and register using their Epic Games account. Their registration will count towards the community goal, giving them the opportunity to earn free rewards in Fortnite. There are three milestones in the Save the World community event, but the main goal is to reach one million registered players. Gamers will receive the Save the World Jess banner once 300,000 have registered; then, after 700,000 players have registered, they will get Kyle’s Construction spray, and lastly, they can claim the Snowstriker hero in Fortnite once a million players have joined in.

In the past, Save the World was a great way for players to earn free V-Bucks, but that has since changed. Players who got Save the World in early access by purchasing the Founder’s Pack would earn rewards simply by leveling up the Collection Book or logging in on a daily basis, which would sometimes reward them with a few hundred V-Bucks. Additionally, they could complete timed missions with possible V-Bucks rewards and up to three daily quests, which would also grant in-game currency. Players who purchased Save the World but didn’t get the Founders pack only got access to a limited amount of V-Bucks, making it less worth the price. However, Founders also saw some of their V-Bucks income reduced, as daily login rewards and the Collection Book were removed from the game.

Regardless of the nerf made to V-Bucks earnings, many fans still enjoyed playing Save the World for fun, but since it didn’t receive many updates, many simply dropped it. Players have asked Epic Games to add more content to Save the World, and it is possible that its objective is to bring in more players to justify these efforts. According to Epic, Fortnite is raising V-Bucks prices to “pay the bills,” so bringing in fans who are willing to spend V-Bucks on another game mode might be the reason behind this decision.
