Netflix Finally Confirms KPop Demon Hunters 2

It feels like we’ve gotten half a dozen different confirmations or hints about a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters, but now we’ve got a fancy, official announcement from Netflix itself, which is entering an “exclusive multiyear writing and directing partnership” with co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans.

The announcement confirms that both Kang and Appelhans will return for the sequel in the co-director chairs, with this being the first of multiple animation projects the pair will be working on at Netflix.

“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” Kang said in the announcement. “There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”

“These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home,” Appelhans added. “We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”

For the moment, Kang and Appelhans are the only confirmed personnel on the sequel, though the announcement mentions main characters Rumi, Zoey, and Mira by name, so it stands to reason the main trio will all be returning for the film. Given how crucial their voices are to the success of the film and its soundtrack, we’ll hopefully hear word that vocalists Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami are returning to perform the music soon.

Netflix has confirmed the sequel is in development, but from the sound of it, we may not see Huntr/x again until 2029 at the earliest, and it may take even longer than that, according to Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson.
