Helldivers 2 is now in its third year, but developer Arrowhead for the first time has revealed a content roadmap that will give Super Earth’s finest an idea of the threats ahead.
As shown in the roadmap, the game’s soon-to-be-released 6.1 update will see players encountering new Illuminate enemies as well as a new mission type. It also brings the release of the previously revealed World War I-inspired Entrenched Division Warbond.
The March 20 update is asking Helldivers to “uncover the truth” about a new Illuminate threat, as the alien menace uses powerful storms to ravage entire planets and shroud its plans in secrecy. A trailer for the content updates gives a glimpse at some of the new enemies Super Earth will be facing, including a bipedal Illuminate walker.
Arrowhead additionally detailed what to expect from Helldivers 2’s 6.2 update and 6.3 updates. In April, players will be bringing the fight back to the Terminids, who will be fielding a new enemy variant. The update will additionally add two new biomes and another to be revealed Warbond alongside bug fixes and balance changes.
Players will have to wait until June for the 6.3 update. Unlike the other two updates, this one doesn’t single out a specific faction Helldivers will be facing off against in its Galactic War and won’t include new enemies, though it will introduce a new biome and Warbond.
“While we won’t reveal every classified detail, this roadmap outlines the direction of the wider war effort as the Galactic War marches on,” Arrowhead writes. “Your service drives this fight forward. This is just the beginning–and beyond these updates, even greater operations are already in motion.”
Arrowhead prior to this point has kept players in the dark when it comes to the twists and turns of the Galactic War. Earlier this year, Helldivers launched a campaign to capture the homeworld of the Automatons, only to be routed at the finish line in part due to the faction’s new Cyborg enemies.
It was earlier this month Arrowhead revealed stats from the second year of Helldivers 2’s ongoing war, including casulties and the most popular Stratagems deployed. Those stats included 8.6 billion Helldivers dead, with 177 million casulties from friendly fire. The enemies of Super Earth fared even worse, as players killed more than 280 billion enemies across Helldivers 2’s three factions.
