Nintendo Switch 2 Gets Compatibility Updates for 10 More Switch Games

Nintendo has officially rolled out new compatibility fixes for 10 Nintendo Switch games on the Nintendo Switch 2, alongside some smaller fixes for multiple other games. The newest home console from Nintendo has already been a huge success as the follow-up to one of the company’s most popular consoles of all time, quickly becoming Nintendo’s fastest-selling console. Some of Nintendo’s most popular franchises have already made their way onto the Switch 2, with new Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, and Pokemon games, among others. Nintendo has also put in significant effort to support older games on the new hardware.

Since the Switch 2’s launch, Nintendo has released multiple fixes aiming to make original Switch games run better on the console. The developer has pushed a plethora of compatibility updates for different Nintendo Switch games, with some games from the older hardware experiencing issues on Switch 2. The console also recently got a big upgrade for fans looking to play their older games on the console, adding a new function that allows the Switch 2’s handheld mode to run original Switch games in docked mode. Now, even more games are getting some helpful compatibility fixes.

A New Nintendo Switch 2 Console Model is Coming, But There’s a Catch

Less than a year after launch, a new version of Nintendo Switch 2 is coming, but not everyone will be able to get their hands on it.

Kirby and Final Fantasy Among New Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes

Nintendo recently rolled out new compatibility updates for 10 Switch games, with some popular franchises included in the mix. The selection of 10 games receiving updates included one first-party Nintendo game, with Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe patched on the Switch 2 as part of the update. The list included some major third-party titles on the platform as well, pushing out compatibility adjustments for games like Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age and id Software’s Doom (2016). Several indie games received a compatibility boost, including A Hat in Time and Limbo among the list of games receiving compatibility fixes.

Beyond the compatibility fixes, Nintendo also addressed some ongoing issues with other Switch games being played on Switch 2. The developer identified five games that are currently experiencing “game progression issues” on Switch 2, with the most notable game of the group being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed. Nintendo also listed two Switch 1 games that are currently having issues on the new console, with indie platformer Pizza Tower having graphics issues and Laysara: Summit Kingdom experiencing touch-screen issues. The listed games are likely to be included in the next round of compatibility fixes for the Switch 2.

  • Botany Manor
  • Dadish
  • DariusBurst: Another Chronicle EX+
  • DariusBurst SC Core + Taito/SEGA Pack

  • Laysara: Summit Kingdom (touch-screen issues)

Nintendo’s continued efforts to bring more Switch games to the Switch 2 have gone beyond simple compatibility fixes. The launch of the console came with the introduction of Switch 2 Edition releases for multiple games, providing improved graphics and performance, along with even some new content. Games like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and even third-party games like Stardew Valley have all received upgrades for the new Nintendo hardware. Nintendo has also continued to roll out more Switch 2 Editions for some of the original console’s most popular games, gearing up to debut Super Mario Bros. Wonder‘s Switch 2 upgrade on March 26.

While the Switch 2 has already seen a successful first year, the console has more releases on the way. The console has multiple high-profile exclusives already confirmed, with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launching in May and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave releasing sometime in 2026. Game Freak also recently unveiled some big news about one of the most exciting games coming to Switch 2, revealing that Pokemon Winds and Waves will launch on the console at an unspecified date in 2027. Nintendo fans should have lots to look forward to from Nintendo’s newest console as it approaches its first anniversary.
