Insomniac Reveals Reason Why Players Can’t Pre-Order Marvel’s Wolverine Yet

Insomniac Games reveals the real reason why fans can’t preorder Marvel’s Wolverine yet, despite the game confirming its release date back in February. Following the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, many fans were wondering where Insomniac Games would go next, whether that meant another new game in the series or something else entirely. While a cyberattack spoiled a bit of the surprise, it’s likely that most fans didn’t expect Marvel’s Wolverine to fully embrace the character’s violent side.

Following all the leaks and teases, fans finally got their first look at Marvel’s Wolverine during a Sony PlayStation State of Play. Unlike Insomniac’s other games, Marvel’s Wolverine leans heavily into violence, as the trailer showcased plenty of blood, severed limbs, and gore. It certainly fits the character, so there’s no doubt many fans who are glad Insomniac didn’t hold back. However, the action isn’t the only part of the experience, as players will be exploring plenty of different regions as hinted at in the trailer, alongside plenty of costumes, and other Marvel characters to interact with. After two trailers, it’s very clear that Insomniac still has a ton it wants to say about the upcoming game.

Why Can Marvel’s Wolverine Be Preordered Yet?

For most games, the announcement of a release date is followed quickly by preorders being opened. Back in February, Insomniac confirmed the release date for Marvel’s Wolverine as September 15, 2026. However, the second piece of that announcement, the preorder confirmation, never ended up coming, leaving fans to wonder just when they’d be able to do so. In fact, fans have begun to pepper Insomniac with questions on social media, especially those who have been waiting for more news after the studio teased more would be coming in the Spring, which has since arrived across the Northern Hemisphere.

In response, the developer reminded folks that Spring isn’t just a day and technically lasts until the Summer Solstice in June. Another piggybacked on the conversation to inquire about preorders and the official Insomniac Games account provided a very candid response by saying, “We want to show you more of the game first.” For now, the best players can do is simply Wishlist it on their PlayStation 5 as they continue to wait for preorder news.

The announcement has led to many to assume that Marvel’s Wolverine could be in line to be featured in an upcoming Spring State of Play sometime in April or perhaps early May. Alternatively, it could also mean that Marvel’s Wolverine could be featured in its own deep-dive-style live-stream similar to how Sony dedicates events to some of its first party games like Ghost of Yotei or even third party titles like 007 First Light, Borderlands 4, and others. It’s possible that both things will come to pass, with Wolverine getting a new trailer in a spring State of Play and then a proper deep-dive video that releases closer to the game’s September launch date.

The previous Marvel’s Wolverine trailer had teased tons of potential content, including appearances by characters like Omega Red, Mystique, and the appearance of Sentinels. Considering the rivalry between the two, it’s also expected that Sabertooth could also appear in the game, though rumors have seemingly highlighted the appearance by another popular Marvel character. A tease by Insomniac mentions the term “lawyer”, which has sent fans spiraling down a rabbit hole of theories, most of which seem to center on Daredevil or She-Hulk appearing in Marvel’s Wolverine. There’s not a ton of details to go on, but with Insomniac teasing more reveals coming soon, perhaps fans will finally get their answer.
